Fostering positive experiences + connection by improving literacy access in the community of Camden, NJ.
A brief intro since we're new here: We are a literacy-focused nonprofit based in Camden, NJ. Through pop-up libraries, book arks, and Free Book Shelves, we strive to make books more accessible to underserved communities. More at thefreebooksproject.org 📚✨
This week, we were fortunate to host a pop-up library at @awanj's Camden Make a Dog’s Day event, presented with @subaru_usa. Thank you so much to Dan Gentilucci of Subaru for inviting us to give away books at this wonderful event!
Through our Pop-Up Libraries, Book Arks, and Free Book Shelves, we’ve been distributing between eight to ten thousand (!) books per month 📚✨ Due to the overwhelming demand for books, we are seeking donations to help us continue to stock our arks, shelves, and tables.
We had a great time giving away books at the Historic Macedonia AME Church’s “Back 2 School Event”! 📚✨ Thank you so much to Reverend Dr. Tiffany Malone for the invitation, and to the kind folks who stopped by our table 🙏
Alex was happy to find this Bible graciously donated by our good friend Diane ✨ We accept donations of any and all religious texts and are so happy when they find their way to a new home.
We had a wonderful time giving away books at DJ Wagner’s Annual Community Drive over the weekend 🙌 Many thanks to Keyann’a at City of Camden Government for inviting us to be part of such a great event! 🙏
Today we’re brimming with gratitude for the @Rutgers_Camden Center for the Arts, @MightyWriters, La Ingrata Camden, and Dimitri Reyes for partnering with us to host wonderful celebrations of Sandra Cisneros' “The House on Mango Street” in association with the @NEABigRead! 🥰🙏
Today we celebrate Black freedom, resilience, and achievement, and as we observe Juneteenth, we reflect with gratitude and admiration on all who have fought for hard-won progress and liberation, and all who are still working to make our society more equitable & just ✊❤️
Special delivery for @theSimpleWay 📚✨ Check out the great work they are doing in Kensington!
We are thrilled to report that last week @Rutgers_Camden bestowed our founder & executive director Tom Martin with a Chancellor’s Award for Diversity, Inclusion, & Community Engagement! Many thanks to the Faculty of Arts and Sciences for this honor, & congratulations to Tom!
Young Writers Workshop, @KidsAlleyCamden-style! ✍️ With thanks to Julie of @Inkwoodnj for the journals & to the kids for reading & writing poems with us! ❤️
Our Director of Marketing and Development, @amyszzz, wears many hats (so to speak 👒) & yesterday she read to the kids from @kidsalleycamden & led them in an Easter egg hunt! 🐣
We had such a great time hosting a pop-up library alongside Story Time with Tom Tracy (@teebirdjr) this weekend! 📚🎉 Thank you to everyone who came out, and to Tom Tracy for including us in this wonderful event 🙏💕
