Stories—Mainly Spooky Ones
Way late on posting this—but thanks @NosleepPodcast @jessecornett667 @AuralStimulate @GrahamNY and everyone for the awesome job on my story The Lasso Man! Longtime podcast fan, and you guys made it spooky as hell! Can't wait to hear more! open.spotify.com/episode/3hXM6E…
Joe Hill Novels, for my money: 1. NOS4A2: Big, scary, ludicrous, moves like a rocket ship. Near perfect. My favorite horror novel of the last 20 years. 2. Heart-Shaped Box: Genuinely terrifying at points. Heartfelt. Nerve-wracking. Tighter than a drum. Loved it. 3. King…
The Brothers K, The Southpaw series, The Art of Fielding, The Natural, and Shoeless Joe--what other great baseball novels am I missing? Need something to get me thru the next couple months
Wishing them nothing but the most well-placed of proton torpedos
Despite the Tarantino drama, I'd never really had much of an opinion either way on Paul Dano. But I'm 6 episodes into the BBC's War and Peace from a few years back, and the dude is awesome. I get the hype.
Top five books of the year: 1. War and Peace (I mean c'mon) 2. In Cold Blood (mundane evil, scary as hell) 3. Tom's Crossing (Mark Z wrote the hell out of this) 4. King Sorrow (meaty, throwback horror doorstop) 5. Of Human Bondage (hated it, it was brilliant)
Caught Frankenstein last night. Visually, it's a greasy double cheeseburger---unbelievably tasty, all the way through. Story-wise? Can't help but feel like del Toro oversimplified things. The monster is supposed to be sympathetic, sure---but blameless entirely? I dunno
Finished reading The Turn of the Screw for the first time since high school last night. What's the best adaptation? Besides Bly Manor...
Veil by @JonathanJanz is a blast. Expected some alien fun—didn't expect a balls-to-the-wall action movie on top of that. Heart and car chases and scares and shootouts and sacrifice and more. Terminator, T2, Alien, and Aliens all at once.
Stoked for #ConjuringLastRites —and hoping for one more scene from the series half as good as this one from Conjuring 2. Horror doesn't hum without heart—and at their best, these movies have done it right.
Reading through The End of the World as We Know It, and damn—Grace by @timlebbon has gotta be my favorite of the collection so far. Brilliant addition. A new piece of my head-canon for my favorite novel of all time
Late seeing this, but #WeaponsMovie was awesome. Like a long-lost Stephen King joint from the eighties took a couple bumps off a dive-bar toilet seat, then grabbed the karaoke mic. Gonna end up on "Best of the '20's" spooky movie lists for sure.
