Liquefaction in earthquake zones: this is a great demonstration of its effects

This liquefaction experiment conducted by the Tokyo Geological Survey of Japan at the Disaster Prevention Exhibition in 2015, shows the effects of different foundations and how hollow objects such as water pipes come to the surface [source, full video: buff.ly/3dtHFsh]

Interesting fact: the Eyjafjallajokull volcanic eruption 10 years ago managed to be carbon neutral. The CO2 it emitted was offset by the reduction in CO2 caused by the flight ban due to ash. CO2 emissions: 150,000 tonnes/day CO2 not emitted from planes: 2.8 m tonnes
