An early shake for the Lower North Island today with a M5.2 earthquake 15km west of Porangahau. The 8km deep quake was felt In the lower North Island and we have received over 4600 felt reports. There have been 5 aftershocks so far, there will likely be more. #eqnz

A new report commissioned by PCE and researched by @NIWA was launched today at the @GeoscienceNZ annual conference. It reveals that up to 2240 million tonnes of organic carbon are stored in marine sediments in NZ’s EEZ. Learn more: arcg.is/01OaG8

I attended a morning tea celebration of the life and work of molluscan paleontologist extraordinaire Alan Beu, held at @gnsscience today. It was a real pleasure and a special time. Many of Alan's colleagues, and also family shared their best memories of an amazing man.
Congratulations to GSNZ student member and @AucklandUni PhD student @MichaelaJDobson on being selected for an @NASAJPL NZ internship! Michaela’s research looks at some of the oldest evidence of fossilised life on Earth, and how this can help us search for life on other planets.
Thank you @Astro_Pam for taking the time today at the @NASAJPL NZ internship award ceremony, to give us advice as young woman in space. It is inspiring to have such an established role model to look up to. @nzspacegovt
