Geography Awareness Week and GIS Day events have begun today. Dr. Xu joined the City of Auburn’s GIS Office and other local agencies and universities to showcase how they use GIS as well highlight higher education. And she saw a Troy GIS graduate, Nolan LaFrance as a bonus!
We have a full week of activities for Geography Awareness Week and GIS Day including a Geoguessr challenge on Thurs evening, faculty and students attending GIS events, and spotlighting the GIS research our faculty are doing. Don’t miss out on the geospatial celebration next week!
Basics of Surveying class have continued to complete labs required to learn how to use the equipment. Next semester is Advanced Measurement Analysis and the business of accurate data collection. Surveyors must be meticulous as they work to develop our infrastructure.
This week's company visit featured Troy alum Adam Driggers with @hargrove_epc in Mobile. We appreciate him taking the time to speak with our students about opportunities with the company and for bringing pizza and swag.
Congrats to more grads who have passed the Fundamental of Surveying exam. Jake Moseley ('24) works at @polysurveying and JT Moorer ('25) works at Alabama Municipal Construction Services. We are always happy to see the professional success of our graduates.
Happy Veterans Day! We are grateful for those who are willing to make the sacrifice to serve.
The ASPLS Student Chapter members helped at the AgriSTEM Expo. They guided 600 students through a semi-trailer full of simulators of ag-tech. They made sure it was a fun and successful stop for the students in Dothan. And as a bonus they got to meet members of @Shenandoahband
Every year Dr. Ramroop’s Photogrammetry class gets to try flying our small drones. More geospatial companies are buying drones to aid in mapping so our students need to be familiar with drone capabilities and how to process the data collected with cameras and other sensors.
AL Board of Licensure for Surveyors were our guests and told students about the code of ethics for a professional surveyor, sharing case studies of what NOT to do. The giveaways made it seem not so serious. Thanks for helping our students prepare to be ethical public servants.
Two Troy GIS grads, Austin Sims, and Tucker Mandell, representing LJA, visited along with Heather Markley, Les Odom, and Rylee Holt to share job opportunities with our students. They came from Atlanta, Pensacola, and Texas with Chick-Fil-A, t-shirts, and swag.
We had another great tailgate for homecoming hosted by Troy alumni from PLS Group. We appreciate them and the ASPLS Student Chapter putting this on for our students and faculty. Apparently there was some intense corn hole competition going on that had to be judged by the alumni.
Congrats to Garrett Cooke on passing his FS exam on the first try. Garrett is a 2025 graduate of the Geomatics program and is well on his way to becoming a professionally licensed surveyor. We always want to celebrate this milestone with our alumni. Good job, Garrett!
Happy Homecoming to the 300 graduates of our Surveying and Geomatics and GIS programs since 2000. We have some coming back to host a tailgate for our students before the Homecoming game tomorrow. We are grateful to all those who do so much to support our programs here at Troy.
Student were learning this semester how to use GPS to stake out points on campus. GPS is not just for driving. It is used to determine accurate locations and improve efficiency in data collection for surveys. What a great way to spend a class day and enjoy our beautiful campus!
We had an great time at Trojan Day last Saturday telling students about geospatial careers. It was a non-stop event and we needed all the faculty and our awesome students who were there to help.
Our faculty have been very busy recruiting new students. Dr. Ramroop visited Billingsley High School last month and attended two Troy admissions events in Huntsville and Birmingham last week, not to mention a "Tools of the Trade" 8th Grade Career Showcase in Hanceville.
Happy Birthday, Dr. Xu! We appreciate the contributions you make to our department - including your recent recruiting trip to Geneva County. We are glad to have you on the team.
Come out and join us at the Vet for the game against the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns. Kickoff is Saturday at 6 pm. You might just see our students in action again. Go Trojans!
Celebrating National Transfer Week as a number of our students come from other colleges. So glad they chose Troy and they are a vital part of our department. We work very hard to help students transition into our programs and not lose pace with their academic goals.
Please join us on Oct 25th for Fall Trojan Day at Troy University . Experience our beautiful campus, attend the browse session (WE WILL BE THERE!) and stay for the football game against Louisiana!
