There’s teaching to be done, so this is how we’ll do it!

Hey Org Commies. Our next class is Wednesday at 12:30 on Zoom. We will be going over the final. Zoom invite coming soon.
OK, we’ll call it a day. Good input! Next class is next week and I’ll email you the details. In the meantime, you are not disposable to me, get in touch if I can be of service. 😁
You nailed that one. Some by choice (millennials) and some to save $$. Nice callback to the Machine metaphor too!
And some of you brought up this: the disposable worker. Question: why are they omnipresent today? Implications?
The populace feels it’s down ( e.g. airlines), thus focusing on service can really separate you from competition ( e.g. TJs and Chick fil a) Great job class!
What has become of service in our “service economy” that Miller describes? Is it better or worse? What company stands out as an example? (Permission to bitch about an org granted) 😊
Business travel is about 12% of flights but up to 75% of revenue for some airlines. Necessity being the mother of invention, we will see a lot more virtual Comm. Good job class!
Great answers. Fast moving and quickly changing and interconnected world. Next question: who are the “road warriors” that Miller speaks of? (256) Will Covid change them? If yes, how? If no, why not?
The book says the “modern era” was the Industrial Age - The idea of organizations we’ve dealt with thus far in class. What is the “postmodern era” (not postmodern art). Think a bit and give me a concrete example of its existence.
We’re about an hour out for Twitter class. Just keeping you posted. 😊
Next meeting in Zoom on harassment/discrimination. Will email date and assignment. Til then have a Happy Easter break! Do get in touch if you have any questions or concerns! 🤙🏼
Looks like we’re out of time. Great answers today. Look for Org ID as you examine other companies. Here’s my mom’s lasagna recipe. You’re welcome. 😊
True. Or at least true that more effort needs to be made by the company to instill its vision and essence to help employees connect to it. In a big “Fayol Org chart” company, the top is mysterious to the bottom. Org ID creates a shared message.
True or False: The bigger and more complex the company, the more there’s a need for organizational ID.
Not the Vista. Others were okay. A house organ is all positive “rah rah” stuff to connect you and make you feel good about your org. “COMMunity Buzz” is Comm studies one.
House organ (yes it’s an odd term). What is USD’s? What is Comm Studies’? Do they promote ID? How?
Well done. Vanessa and Bryce nailed it. Critical folk see it as “sneaky” control. “The Man” is controlling you and you don’t even know it! Most people see it as good tho. How does USD create/stimulate/encourage organizational ID?
You guys are so AWESOME! You had great intrapersonal examples as well as overt manifestations of it! How do critical theorists see it as bad? Any terms/examples from previous classes relate here?
Okay, consubstantiality equates to identification. What then is an example of “organizational identification?” (Sorry there’s no picture here. Had one, couldn’t find it). 😬
