Gr 1 and 2 Ss enjoyed learning about reptiles and other animals. We even got “WILD” by dressing up and bringing in our toy animals too. Thanks, Mrs. H. for organizing the show.
Animal Day! We had fun measuring our wild (toy) visitors in different ways by choosing suitable units of measure. Mass, area, length, and height review.
Investigating living things- We grew plants from seeds. Great job recording observations and changes over time! Some scientists changed one variable to test what would happen. P discovered plant still grew without sunlight in closet but it turned out beige instead of green.
Thanks to McMaster’s volunteers for leading an engaging and fun Teddy Bear clinic today for @Panabaker_HWDSB grade 1 students. Health cards, X-rays, hand washing, surgery and more!
Plant investigation to learn about needs of living things! We have begun to grow plants from seeds. We decided to test what would happen if we put one in the closet without sunshine, one in the freezer, one without dirt, & one without water. Gr1 scientists will make observations.
Spatial Sense - Gr 1 mathematicians & authors @Panabaker_HWDSB wrote positional language books with a moveable Puma. Where does the Puma go first, after that, & at the end? Above, below, to the left of, to the right of, and more! Great sentence writing & use of math words, Pumas!
Estimating, measuring, & recording the capacity of various containers. How many small cups will fill each container? Extra water fun at the end to create something from clay that could hold at least 5 pennies & float. Way to go, P, for persisting & modifying to hold 15 pennies!
Thanks to Gr 1 parents for helping us show our learning about chosen topics of interest in creative & detailed ways & for helping us to prepare for our non-fiction book talks. L’s model shows us that a hippo can open its mouth 4 feet which is about the height of a Gr 1 student.
Gr 1 scientists are learning how to make close observations of plants using magnifiers and created non-fiction labelled diagrams of a dandelion.
Fun Friday! To end @HWDSB Mental Health week, we connected with another class to share joy playing assorted games. Connection! Listening! Taking turns! Learning from each other! New friends! Having fun! Thanks for sharing, @Panabaker_HWDSB Pumas!

Thanks @Estimation180 for some fun estimating practice. We estimated our sets from home, recorded, and then counted in different ways like by 2s, 5s, and 10s to find our totals. Math is everywhere!
Purposeful literacy! As part of Social Studies learning in Gr 1, Ss were encouraged to create & show gratitude to a community member who helps make our community better. Thanks to all community leaders and helpers, including volunteers like J’s coach. Together we’re better!
