New RECORD HIGH TIDE in Portland has been set and still going higher. 14.29 breaks the old record set in 1978 during the blizzard on Feb 7th. That was 14.17. #Tides #Flooding #Maine
It will be a close call to a record tide in Portland, as gap between predicted & what's happening is a little less than what would get us to the record. Notice the diff between predicted w/out a storm & the red line which is what's happening. Current trend would mean no record.
These are not my pictures, I found them on Facebook, but this is incredible. Extreme flooding on route 2 in Leominster, MA a short time ago #mawx
Locally, showers and downpours will be moving through until ~2pm Already picked up enough to move into 2nd wettest summer on record in Boston (Worcester was already there) Only 1955 beats this year
Official landfall as a strong Cat 3
7:45 AM EDT update: Extremely dangerous Category 3 Hurricane #Idalia makes landfall in the Florida Big Bend. Maximum sustained winds were estimated to be 125 mph. Catastrophic storm surge and damaging winds ongoing.
Idalia set to strike a part of the FL Coast that hasn't been hit by a major hurricane in at least a couple hundred years
This is no exaggeration from @NWSTallahassee. No major hurricane on record (1851-present) is known to have made landfall in the region Hurricane Idalia is forecast to. Closest storm from the west - Michael 2018. Closest storm from the east - a hurricane in 1895.
A true failure of @MassGovernor admin. Ending the only two visible & immediate benefit to riders policies the T has implemented during her administration while new slow zones are added weekly. I don't understand this style of politics.
Beginning September 1st, 2023, normal fares will resume throughout the MBTA system. Passengers will no longer be able to display CharlieCards for travel to/from select stations on the Commuter Rail.
More daily high temperature records broken or tied across the Eastern US on Friday. Bridgeport & Hartford/BDL CT, Worcester MA, Islip NY, Manchester NH & Augusta ME shattered the April 14th record by more than 10 degrees. Concord NH broke a 153 year old record (1870) by 6 degrees
Too hot too soon, or amazing day? I'll hang up and listen
Obviously race is and racism is front and center in the events in the Tennessee, but another axis of conflict is the accelerating rural / metro divide, and the degree to which Republicans view growing, thriving metro areas as a threat.
Logan Airport briefly hit -10F this morning, the coldest morning since January 1957 when folks were watching Gunsmoke and Danny Thomas on @CBS #WeatherWisdom
When we say it'll be cold on Saturday morning, we mean it will be really cold! Thanks to our neighbors in Gray, you can see that this kind of airmass impacts our area only once every several years! Do you remember Valentine's weekend 2016? Temps could be similar Saturday!
The Wave - After reviewing my images, I determined that I captured the wave that took out the door and window at Portland Head Lighthouse. I'm not happy about it, but I am in awe of the power of nature. I believe this is a historic capture. #mewx #maine #winterstorm #elliott
Kind of wild how all the big ones have been equally spread across the Gulf of Mexico during the past 5 years
"The Gulf of Mexico is now part of Naples, Florida": Ali Velshi reports on Hurricane Ian at 1:35pm ET, as the storm's "catastrophic" system bears down on the state's gulf coast. msnbc.com/live
Tremendous spike in lightning as the eyewall begins to come ashore on Captiva. Unreal. #Ian
Look at the instantaneous wind at 8,000 feet! A lot of this can translate to the ground. Catastrophic gusts likely with the eyewall.
By my count, if the landfall pressure of #Fiona is under 934mb...it would be the lowest of any landfalling tropical cyclone anywhere in the Atlantic north of Florida.
