Young people want serious religion. The lack of seriousness is why young people leave or dismiss Anglicanism. I think the enormity of the backlash against @CburyCathedral is because this graffiti epitomises the feeling that those leading the church lack firm faith. Lack pious…

Illegible, unaesthetic, disrespectful nonsense from a church so desperate to be seen as progressive, its leaders spiral it into irrelevance. Just as faith based Christianity is surging, Church of England congregations are falling as it attempts to be “cool”. Go woke, go broke.…

The Special Relationship is going to be torn apart due to fundamental disagreements on *checks notes* the Ecclesiastical Exemption from Listed Building Control. I'm HERE for it.

It is weird to me that these people don't see the irony of honoring "marginalized communities" by making a beautiful historical building really ugly.

I'm afraid this does rather suggest a distant crit-theory view of "urban transgression" and "aesthetic norm rejection" whilst ignoring the actual working-class people who find graffiti an ugly depressing menace and who look to the Church for beauty and meaning.

There is something deeply bizarre about the way in which the Dean and Chapter of Canterbury delight in desecrating their sacred space. It feels almost Freudian. thetimes.com/article/5e9cfa…

30 years in prison, and this problem goes away in a second. It turns out that human beings, like all other sentient beings, respond to schedules of reinforcement (i.e., rewards and punishments). Throw this degenerate pig into a dark cell, and our cultural products will be safe.

It’s not activism, it’s vandalism.

Let me translate: we want everyone to talk about something other than our own management. RSPB stopped publishing bird numbers on its own reserves 12 years ago. Driven grouse shooting is one of the world’s most successful conservation stories… and the RSPB can’t bear it.
