Old Hollow Tree

This seems to have struck a nerve, so I expanded upon it. Shortcut in the comments.
I reject fatalism. "The West has fallen!" is for boring neurotics. A man cannot fix national decline. You cannot reverse the big systemic problems at scale. However: A family can fix a home. Homes can fix a town. Towns can fix a region. Make your efforts small and good.
I lost power this evening. Guess what I had handy to provide ambient lighting until power was restored? Yep, Humming Meadow beeswax tapers. 🕯️🐝
Slop, and quite frankly, vile engagement accounts that monetize your anger and your attention, who make things worse all while pretending to be people they aren't (people from America) have never suffered such a blow as they have today. Nature is healing.
I am delighted to use pure beeswax candles made by @OldHollowTree and @LadyHollowTree. They're perfect for reading on the porch at night. The ambience they exude inspired me to read a selection from the autobiography of Richard Adams. hummingmeadowhoney.com/collections/all
This is the funniest thing to happen on this app ever.
All the cool people start their fires with Humming Meadow packing materials 😎
Sitting at family dinner last night and our youngest (14) goes “no one else I know eats together as a family every night. And absolutely no one has Sunday dinner with grandparents.” That felt pretty normal in the 80/90’s. What changed?
Ha ha I literally did the same thing tonight
You have yet to meet everyone who will love you. Who you will love.
A “Wish you were here” postcard but it’s just that shitty tree that fell into the neighbor’s field and no one to tell us what to do.
New England will break your heart in all the right ways.
A “Wish you were here” postcard but it’s just the old hay rake where you go to hope that you do enough so your children will see the value in this place and want to stick around.
A “Wish you were here” postcard but it’s just that part of the yard that never really thaws until August because of the big old pine tree Amos planted in 1984.
A “Wish you were here” postcard but it’s just that scraggly part of woods behind the barn where you go to think about God and fatherhood and hope you’re on the right track.
A “Wish you were here” postcard but it’s just the forlorn November side of the road leading down to the village with a few cans of stout in our coat pockets and woodsmoke in the air.
