Today's verdict is the right one, but we must keep fighting for full justice. George Floyd and so many other Black lives have been lost to systemic racism and violence. We need true action to transform our nation.
A jury has found Derek Chauvin guilty in the death of George Floyd. Though this verdict cannot bring Floyd back, and a transformation of policing is long past due, some small semblance of justice and accountability have been served today.
Breonna Taylor: daughter, girlfriend, sister, EMT. Her life mattered. But she and her family are still without justice. Black lives matter. But our lives are still treated as disposable by our justice system. We will not forget, and we will not stop demanding change.
.@RepMondaire, one of the first openly LGBTQ Black members of Congress, supports the #EqualityAct on the House floor: "To grow up poor, Black and gay is to not see yourself anywhere. It is also to feel completely unseen as so many people around invalidate your very existence."
BREAKING: The #EqualityAct has passed the House of Representatives with bipartisan support. We are one step closer to ensuring that every person in America is treated equally under the law.
I’m holding space for every LGBTQ+ person today, especially our Trans friends, exhausted by the rhetoric and the baseless and hurtful attacks on your humanity by lawmakers who refuse to see you as an equal. I see you. I’m here for you.
BREAKING: At President @JoeBiden's direction, @HUDgov has announced it will enforce the Fair Housing Act to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity. It is illegal to deny you housing based on who you are or how you identify.
