A new graduate student joined the lab. Welcome Al (hansmann-lab.com/cbpc/al/al.php)!

Thanks to Prof Yi He for organizing the General Computational Chemistry session at RMRM in Albuquerque (NM) where I gave on 10/24/25 an invited talk " Simulating the modulation of amyloid formation and inhibition by small peptides".

Lucy and Malinda are attending the ACS Joint SWRM/SERM in Orlando. Lucy presented a talk "The Effect of SARS-CoV-2 Protein Fragments on the Dimerization of α-Synuclein" & Malinda one on "Modulation of Aβ1-42 Aggregation by a SARS-CoV-2 Derived Viral Fragment"

Another graduate student in the lab, Lucy Coleman, got her first paper published. Lucy is looking into the effect of viral protein fragments on alpha-synuclein dimerization. Here is the paper she co-authored:doi.org/10.1021/acsche…. Great job, Lucy!

Graduate student Malinda B. Premathilaka co-authored his first paper with him as first author, investigating the effect of a SARS-CoV-2 protein fragment on Abeta aggregation: doi.org/10.1021/acs.jc…. Well done, Malinda!

Today, graduate student Andrew Chesney (hansmann-lab.com/cbpc/andrew/an…) defended successfully his doctoral thesis "INVESTIGATING THE EFFECTS OF SMALL PEPTIDES ON AMYLOID AGGREGATION". Well done, Andrew!

Here comes a more recent publication that uses an inhibitor proposed by us in earlier work. This work is done by Maria and the Kishore Lab, with some small contributions by Andrew and me. Hope the paper makes a splash! doi.org/10.1016/j.celr…

I was lazy with my updates. Here is an article from end of 2024, describing work done in collaboration with an experimental group, and continuing our research in pathogen-induced amyloid formation: doi.org/10.1016/j.ijbi…

Lucy Coleman (hansmann-lab.com/cbpc/lucy/lucy…) is joining our lab as a graduate student. Welcome Lucy!

Today, graduate student Miranda S Sheridan (hansmann-lab.com/cbpc/miranda/r…) successfully defended her thesis "Modeling Aspects of Proteins in Biologically Relevant Environments". Well done Randi (from now on Dr Sheridan)!

Here is some work suggested to us originally by Prof. Feng Wang (U Arkansas) and having become a large part of Randi's doctoral research: doi.org/10.1021/acs.jp…

Grad student Alan Ray (hansmann-lab.com/cbpc/alan/alan…) defended today successfully his doctoral thesis "Folding Proteins In Silico". Well done Alan, eh, Dr. Ray!

Undergrad Vignesh Anand (hansmann-lab.com/cbpc/anand/ana…) presented a talk "Stability of Amylin and CGRP Oligomers in the Presence of SARS-CoV-2 Fragments" on the 2024 annual Undergraduate Research Day at University of Oklahoma (ou.edu/honors/researc…)

Congratulation also to our undergrad Vignesh Anand (hansmann-lab.com/cbpc/anand/ana…) who received a Summer 2024 Provost’s Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Fellowship of $5000 to do research in my lab.

Congratulations also to Alan (hansmann-lab.com/cbpc/alan/alan…) for receiving the Graduate Teaching Assistant award for outstanding lecture support!

Congratulations to Randi (hansmann-lab.com/cbpc/miranda/r…) for receiving the Robert E Frech Award for outstanding Scholarship from the OU Chemistry Department. Well done!

Mr. Malinda B. Premathilaka (hansmann-lab.com/cbpc/malinda/m…) joined the lab as doctoral student. Welcome Malinda!

Here is a follow up study on our earlier work looking into the effect of SARS-COV-2 protein fragments on Amyloidogenesis of α-Synuclein: doi.org/10.1063/5.0157… . Given lack of funding this may be our last paper exploring this topic.

Progress is slower than expected, but we are still interested in virus-induced aggregation. Here is recent work on the effect of SARS-COV-2 protein fragments on amylin aggregation: doi.org/10.1021/acsome…

A new postdoc, Buddhadev Maiti, joined the lab. Welcome Maiti! hansmann-lab.com/cbpc/maiti/mai…
