Folks it's perfectly possible to do a nested fetch join in HQL. I guess this feature is a bit hidden, and so I guess I'm not surprised that some people don't know about it.
In Java world, when we say "ORM", we usually mean @Hibernate Somebody loves it, somebody hates it. Whichever side you're on, understanding reasons behind decisions on Hibernate is always a good idea.

Hibernate Reactive 4.1 is now available, compatible with ORM 7.1 and Vert.x 5.0. [Note that Reactive 3.1 is also compatible with ORM 7.1 but targets Vert.x 4.5.]

For reference, here's the same query written in HQL. It's shorter, cleaner, and completely portable between all the databases we support (unlike the original SQL).

Hibernate 7.1 automatically generates 'check' constraints to enforce non-nullability in single-table inheritance mappings.
Just added some integration with Spring to Hibernate Data Repositories, making it quite easy to use Jakarta Data in Spring.
We released Quarkus 3.24.3 with some additional fixes. If you are using Hibernate ORM, it is a good opportunity to get the latest fixes of ORM 7. buff.ly/wyBd8vQ
