Hull Fact of the Day Mary Murdoch graduated from London School of Medicine for Women in 1893 and became House Surgeon at the Victoria Hospital for Sick Children, Park Street Hull. She went on to became Hull's first female GP @HistoryTroupe @carnegiehull44 #FactoftheDay #LoveHull

This morning East Hull remembers The Triple Trawler Disaster at the Valiant Drive Memoral. Revs Aian Macpherson welcomed everyone and led the service. @TMCHull choir sang Amazing Grace beautifully at the beginning of the memorial service #PRIDE @HistoryTroupe

Students @KSAcademy1 learned about war on the front line during a ‘Trench and Triage’ presentation, which focused on daily life of the soldiers and medics in WWI & the range of techniques that were developed to treat the devastating injuries sustained. bit.ly/2OfGGPj

Poet and jazz enthusiast #PhilipLarkin (1922-85) died in #Hull on 2 December 1985. Although born in Coventry, he worked for many years as librarian at #HullUniversity. He was commemorated by a series of decorated toads. See how many you can find! #OTD #History #Heritage Toads
Scientist Ernest William Brown was born in Hull on this day in 1866, the son of a timber merchant. The family home was at 4 Milton Terrace, Anlaby Road. His major work Tables of the Motion of the Moon, was published in 1919. He died in New Haven, CT, in 1938. #History #OTD
In 1671, Thomas, 3rd Lord Fairfax of Cameron, died at home: Nun Appleton Priory in Yorkshire. He was one of the great commanders of the Parliamentary forces in the Civil War, Governor of Hull during the Second Civil War & employed Andrew Marvell as a tutor for his daughter.
