Parade of the Spirits is a fun but challenging concert band piece in the spirit of a film score for a spooky Halloween spectacular. @ArthurBreur is holding a consortium for this piece. Contact him directly if you're interested in participating. musescore.com/arthurbreur/sc…

Parade of the Spirits - Concert Band Consortium In Progress

Arthur Breur's first concert march was composed with dogs in mind. Dogs running, dogs playing, dogs barking... but the percussion-led "dogfights" in this concert march are intentionally lighthearted! floatinghomemusic.com/downloads/conc…

Arthur Breur's Piano Sonata combines a variety of different influences into a three-movement work that is energizing, calming, exhilarating, thoughtful, and uplifting. A jazzy first movement, a dreamy waltz, and an adventurous finale. @arthurbreur floatinghomemusic.com/downloads/arth…

P.S. Spoiler alert: One of the biggest obstacles for new music *performers* in starting collaborations is unplayable music, and this is why I started @toolboxsessions. Learn more at toolboxsessions.com + use code 'daniellekuntz22' for a $10 discount. [8/8]

In the meantime, I'd love to hear from you! If you're a composer, how do you network with performers? If you're a performer, what's the biggest obstacle for you in getting involved with new music? [7/8]

We need to get more performing musicians excited about new music and working with living, breathing composers. In a later post (next week), I'll discuss how to overcome some common obstacles to getting started in new music, as a performer, so stay tuned. [6/8]

Right now, the few active new music performer-musicians are usually completely booked with projects. Personally, I can realistically only collaborate and perform 3-4 advanced level pieces per year, in addition to my regular commitments. (...and I'm currently backlogged..) [5/8]

So, why do composers still struggle to get performers interested in playing their music? In all honesty? We need more music performers to start championing new music and to get involved with these collaborations. [4/8]

Performers usually have curated an audience of music-listeners. That's literally our job - we have to have an audience to perform! So by partnering with composers, we can help you get performances and help you get connected to an audience. There's so much potential! [3/8]

If you've followed me for any length of time, you know that I strongly believe that performers and composers should partner and collaborate together. Yes, this collaboration is important for idiomatic writing, but that is just the start. [2/8]

Last week, I asked about your biggest challenge as a composer. The answers ranged from learning new technology, to imposter syndrome, and getting funding. But an overwhelming majority of you said your biggest challenge is getting people to listen to and perform your music.[1/8]
