The easiest way to combat this is to create a scheduling link (calendly/boomerang) and make meeting with professors part of the grading system.
This is such a clear explanation of the discrepancies between school districts in MA. Required reading! Especially for the fools at @BostonMagazine who keep putting out “best schools” lists that completely ignore socioeconomic segregation. masslive.com/news/2022/12/f…

Forget per-pupil spending, here’s the number to use to compare Mass. schools, experts say
It's a figure that tends to predict placement on school rankings lists, as well as determine inequality throughout the state of Massachusetts from district to district.

Vigorous Work v. Rigorous Work "Invigorating work is authentic work. It drives the teacher. It drives the learner. It drives us. It’s not something we do to kids. It is something we do with and for kids. I raise my support, so I can raise my kids. It’s 'we' work. It’s our work."
My initial thoughts on ChatGPT: 1) If HS English dies, it’s not because of AI. It’s because standardized testing has shifted the focus of education from generating knowledge to regurgitating knowledge in a standard format.
What ChatGPT can produce right now is better than most of the writing seen by your average teacher or professor, @coffinlifebuoy writes. on.theatln.tc/ODsrbID
“The share of a family’s total budget going towards childcare and education category increased eight-fold between 1960 and 2015” A sobering statistic. This is a great read.
Are children still no longer economically useful? @BandeljNina and I explore this question in a new paper here: link.springer.com/article/10.100…
Schools can’t spend decades treating writing as transactional—driven by the SAT, AP exams + college essays—then raise hell when students treat it that way, too. My fear is that we’ll just double down on surveillance because of AI rather than reconsidering our shared practices.
Another example of the need for transparent pay for keynotes/workshops.

1/3 One reason I’m disturbed by the trend for education research to be conducted by economists is that the kind of psychology in which mainstream economics is rooted — indeed, that it takes on faith — is a rusty Skinnerian behaviorism that most psychologists outgrew long ago.

I honestly don't know what's worse. The people who blame the students when they struggle. Or the people who blame the teachers. It's. The. System.
Here’s a huge college myth: Students who can get into Harvard generally don’t need Harvard to succeed in life.
Kaitlyn Younger applied to five Ivy League schools, plus Stanford and Berkeley, with a 1550 on her SAT. None accepted her. on.wsj.com/3fIUFxT
Dunning-Kruger Effect: a person who overestimates their knowledge; they don’t know what they don’t know. Example: Anyone speaking about the “right way” to teach children to read who have never successfully taught children to read.
