Need something to do over Spring Break? The Park Interpreter from nearby Palmetto State Park will present a workshop on the 10 essentials you need when hiking/camping and the 7 leave no trace principles of camping and visiting the outdoors.
Amor Towles’ debut novel set in 1930s NYC. Another great study of human nature w/ engaging characters set in a unique historical timeframe. Towles’ mastery of writing & character development is so enjoyable – one of my new favorite writers! #amortowles #rulesofcivility
A fabulous historical fiction (WWII) which follows two young people (a blind French girl & a German electronics wiz kid) whose stories alternate within the novel & eventually collide. A legendary & highly coveted jewel, the Sea of Flames, also plays an integral part in the story.
Engaging characters, a plot that steadily moves forward, and a mystery that keeps interest are all parts of this contemporary novel by Nora Roberts. Set mostly in California, it details the kidnapping of a child actress from an acting dynasty and its fallout throughout her life.
Movie Nights @ the Library have begun! If you missed the first one, the live action Aladdin will be showing on Nov 22 at 6:00 PM! Bring the kids and settle in for an entertaining evening! #aladdinmovie #kidsmovies #librarymovienight #luling
A very interesting read about the beginnings of the airline industry & the women who served on them - both literally & figuratively. Hard to believe that such occupational restrictions were so common! Fascinating also to see the historical moments in which they participated.
Because it was sooo much fun... we are doing the community poetry reading again next week! Thursday, November 17 at 6:30 pm. Bring a poem, or not, but don't miss it! #poetryreading #luling #libraryprograms #poetryisfun
Just finished reading Nina Totenberg's memoir. Not only did I learn about RBG and their friendship, but I also learned much about Totenberg's life and career. I very much enjoyed her observations about women in the workplace, journalism, our country, and the judiciary.
Hey, Poetry lovers! The Library will be hosting its first Poetry Reading tonight at 6:30 PM! If you can't make this one, we'll be doing it again on November 17! #poetry #poetryreading #luling #favoritepoem

A stunningly beautiful book, full of wisdom & observations of human nature, wit & endearing characters, it follows Count Rostov, under house arrest in a Moscow luxury hotel from the 1920-1950s, & his fascinating relationships & friendships while there. Put on your must read list!
Beginning in October - every Wednesday - the library will host a Children's Story Hour! 11 AM for ages 2-4 and 11:30 AM for ages 4-6, though all are welcome for part or all of the hour. We hope to see lots of our youngest readers each week! #youngreaders #preschool #homeschool
Another new acquisition, the 1990 Newberry Award Winner by Lois Lowry (author of The Giver & other books)! It is a historical fiction telling of the courageous Danish people during WW II & how even children put their lives at risk to save others. A must read book for all ages!
Thank you to the Friends of the Library who just purchased a new rocking chair for our kids room! Looking forward to seeing folks bring their children - and grandchildren - to share and enjoy books while here! #luling #kidslibrary #childrensliterature
The classic Newberry Award winner (1970) now in its 50th anniversary edition. Set in late 1800s/early 1900s, a sharecropping family struggles to survive and keep the family together. The family dog Sounder survives a near death injury to await his master's return years later.
Excited to get new copies of three classic Caldecott winners! These are three of my favorite children's authors/illustrators. Come check these out and share with a child you love!!! #luling #caldecott #childrensliterature #chrisvanallsburg #mauricesendak #davidwiesner
This is a story of a young woman, her family, & their struggles during the Great Depression, but it resonates strongly w/ current events as well. Beautifully written, it evokes a heartfelt connection w/ the characters & their pain - and triumphs as well. #fourwinds #kristinhannah
Japanese Breakfast singer/songwriter Michelle Zauner has written a memoir of her youth & the death of her mother. It is a story of her search for belonging as an Asian American woman, family relationships, the importance of food in our lives (& relationships), & coming of age.
