Try Image Vectorizer. It’s available in the Mac App Store for $5. It actually does a much better job than illustrator at retaining detail. When illustrator’s “Live Trace” became “Image Trace” they made it downsample large images with no user control causing details to be lost.

No, Image Vectorizer doesn't do centerline tracing. I don't know any tool that does this well (some tools do it badly).

@pixelmelter And with conversion threshold set to 0.7, the hexagons look okay. Text is iffy at such low resolution.
@pixelmelter I can't reproduce this. Reconstructing your image at 272x83, and with default settings, I get this.
