Sadly, many people conflate solar flares with #solarstorms (aka CMEs), but they are not the same thing. Solar flare effects, like the flashes of light we see on the Sun and radio blackouts at Earth, take 8 minutes to arrive. Solar storms, which can cause #aurora, take days to…

What a farce - especially with COP 28 starting in the UAE. Offsetting is a big cop-out itself, giving permission for polluters to hide behind their investment in carbon credits. edition.cnn.com/2023/11/22/cli…

There have been undercover investigations in the UK, Germany, Austria, Spain and Italy... @LidlGB your chicken cruelty is completely systemic. #LidlChickenScandal 🐔You are not alone, other food outlets are equally guilty. But Lidl had a reputation of being ethical. Sort it out .

What is this crap about allocating a third of the planet to nature conservation! We need to share 100% of this amazing home we share with the millions of lifeforms who live here too. The presumption that we 'own' this amazing miracle of Planet Earth sickens me. We don't own it.

This is the very best time of year to fulfil your life-long ambition to get good at identifying Amaranthaceae.

Admit it. You’ve always intended to get to grips with Atriplex and Chenopodium, but somehow you just never got round to it. The time has come. The fruits are ripe and there are no more excuses. We’ll start with the species that you can do by jizz alone, in the field.

"Is Tibet a country?" This is the most Googled question about Tibet. A very simple question, but probably the most important. So, let us be very clear. Tibet is a country. China invaded Tibet in 1950 and has kept it under military occupation ever since.

What a terrible mess. This peat bog's ability to trap carbon is many times graeter than the ephemeral trees that will be planted on it.

And here is some work by @ForestryEngland, continuing to destroy peatlands and other Annex I habitats at Berrier End in Cumbria on a huge scale. All of this work which is destroying vast areas of wet heath and bog will soon be covered in >50% non-native conifer plantation...
