My son is on year 14 of a 37 year sentence. I have no words to explain what prison has done to him, and me, and his dad, and his sisters, and his brother, and his grandmother, and his daughters. Devastation beyond repair. None of us are better...All of us are bitter.
Long prison sentences don’t reform or rehabilitate, they break the spirit beyond repair, then cast you out into a world you don’t recognize and can’t survive in. If prisons must exist, we must reimagine their purpose

An adolescent doesn’t need to serve a life sentence to be “rehabilitated “ or 15, 20, 25+ years…What they need is the love, support, & resources they should have been provided before they ever ended up in the criminal justice system & that should not take decades…
We fight for change because we love. We believe in "impossible dreams" because we love. Our faith calls us not to simply visit the prisoner, but to set the captives free, and thereby set ourselves free.
I stopped months ago I only get on here when I get a notification from Famm so this will help us both 😂
One of my resolutions for 2022 is to look at Twitter less often. I will use it to push out FAMM’s work but I don’t find it a useful place to engage people and win new supporters for reform, which is really my job. Let’s see how well I do with this resolution.

Today a federal court released a dying man from prison. The AUSA filed a joint motion seeking the man’s release and now he can rest peacefully at home with his family. Here’s to a 2022 filled with reasonable AUSA’s, thoughtful judges, and #decarceration.

Everyone can spread it and is. This focus on young kids being hospitalized is alarmism. I have two older children but my view would be same if I had none or they were younger.

I went to a new inmate in our unit just released from medical to check on him. He was scared from experiencing rape. He said, "I screamed until I couldn't, then I just stared into space" I told him, "You're safe, everything will be alright," not knowing if either would be true.
Thank you President Joe Biden, Senior Advisor Cedric Richmond, and AG Garland for your thoughtful decision to undue the burden on those on home confinement leaving it to their own future behavior and actions being the deciding factor whether they return to prison or not. #KUDOS
