Hello twitter family. I need your help! I am writing to PIs with whom I want to work as an intern/project assistant to kickstart my academic journey. I need tips regarding the subject, body and content of the email. Any help is appreciated. @AcademicChatter @OpenAcademics

Imagine grown up #scientists mocking a candidate during an #interview by laughing at their face💀. Easiest red flag about an #institute that can be spotted. Things wrong with #IndianAcademia. @AcademicChatter @VoicesofIndAcad

9 months!!! That's how long I have been working without being paid!!! My stipend is the sole source of income for the survival of my family of four. I haven't been able to send a single penny home since February. @HRDG_CSIR @EduMinOfIndia @CSIR_IND @PrinSciAdvGoI

Guys! I am terrified of sending a cold email to PIs because I think I am not enough. This feeling has made me procrastinate sending an email. Any tips on how to deal with this feeling? @OpenAcademics @academicvoices @VoicesofIndAcad

Most Indian academia PIs convey rejection in two horrendous ways : 1. Don't email back to the interviewee they have rejected. If YOU have advertised for a position and YOU need an employee, it becomes YOUR responsibility to convey the news to the candidate. (1/n)

One thing that’s really helped me is to regularly remind myself that academia isn’t everything, and to push myself to do more and more non-academic things. It’s amazing how pigeonholed your life can become when engrossed in academia.🤔 #PhDVoice #PostdocVoice

The 2.5% who chose "No" are the PIs one should avoid. Sign of a good PI is one who gracefully accepts constructive criticism.

Just like grad students are periodically assessed in a TCM report, do you think a "TCM report" of PIs, submitted by his/her/their students, would be a useful way to assess mentorship?

Hey you. Yes, you. You're doing great. The thoughts and knowledge you bring to the table are insightful and generative. The world needs to see that thing you've been working on, so stay lifted. You got this.

#PhDSupervisors: Many #PhD students will experience mental health issues. And it might not be obvious. Bear this in mind at your next meeting or when you are giving feedback. The person at the other end may not be in a good space at that moment. buff.ly/3bxd63v #PhDforum

If a cell is considered to be a dark room, how do proteins reach their target location so precisely? How is this process regulated? I know that proteins have a signal peptide, but how does this guide them? How do they know what path to choose? @AcademicChatter
