The 2022 #Technology Highlights document is now live! This document showcases the 2022 developments that were essential for JPL’s continuing contribution to #NASA’s future success. scienceandtechnology.jpl.nasa.gov/sites/default/…

Humans started with a fixed planetary lander, progressed to wheeled exploration #rovers, then aerial flight with the #Mars helicopter. Now we are building snake robots to explore where the others can't. jpl.nasa.gov/news/jpls-snak…
Antennas for #space want to be big & bring more data back - but spacecraft are small. So, let’s find a way to make the big ones small. And #3Dprint them. nasa.gov/press-release/…
We test our CADRE #rovers driving in the #moon soil (well - our best approximation of the soil.). Here’s a test. m.youtube.com/watch?v=eqkrVp…

When we transmit by laser communication or look at the faintest galaxy, we need to see each & every photon. So we build detectors called “single photon detectors” - of course. They’re also used for quantum computing with record accomplishment. Take a look jpl.nasa.gov/news/nasas-qua…
We drive single #rovers on planets w/ mostly humans in the loop-they’re called rover drivers, of course! How about 3 small rovers acting like one that communicate & collaborate to split up duties w/ NO human in the loop? Take a look: nasa.gov/directorates/s… #SpaceExploration
25yrs ago we debated whether planetary surface mobility would be important -Pathfinder/Sojourner tech demo ended that. 2yrs ago we debated whether planetary air mobility would be important -Ingenuity tech demo ended that. It’s at 40 flights & counting mars.nasa.gov/technology/hel…
It's really special to work with folks that inspire and teach generations. Congratulations to JPL'er Dave Miller for his election to the National Academy of Engineering nae.edu/289843/NAENewC…
There are different ways to land on #Mars, but if you want to go light and be willing to withstand the high-g impact, you can invent a crushable lander! It will get your small payload to the surface. Take a look: nasa.gov/feature/jpl/wh… #SpaceExploration
As the #climate changes, how do we move from being climate *observers* to being climate *solvers*? Over the years, JPL has evolved #tech that measures #greenhouse gasses into a smaller more cost efficient package that will drive climate action— jpl.nasa.gov/news/nasa-sens…
If the #moon becomes habitable, we need water. To make water, we need to find it in sufficient quantities. Our Lunar Flashlight is validating the #tech that will identify the existence of water by bouncing light off the surface and measure the response. nasa.gov/feature/jpl/na…
On a rare occasion you get to meet someone truly extraordinary. Colonel Kittinger is one. An amazing humble pioneer. www-nytimes-com.cdn.ampproject.org/c/s/www.nytime…
For several years @nasajpl has worked with #startup companies and small businesses to create diversity in our industry. Our partners at @TechstarsLA are showcasing the next cadre and the innovative ideas they bring. Learn more about it here 👇🏽 stonks.com/techstarsla/de…
Look who’s coming to visit us!
Heading to @NASAJPL to meet with @LaurieofMars and our teams to talk strategy. Some of my most memorable days of my life thus far were in Pasadena, including two Mars landings, the first Mars helo flight, and ends of Cassini, Oppy, & Spitzer. Amazing history - best to come!

Really proud to be a part of the MSR mission! My amazing team’s hardware (the CCRS End Effector) is shown (partially) operating on the orbiter 1:16-1:20 🚀🦾🛰️
Mars Sample Return would be one of the most ambitious campaigns ever attempted in space. But bringing those samples to Earth will be no easy feat, requiring multiple spacecraft to pick up the samples, launch off the Martian surface, and ferry them back to our planet.
