Trekking across the UK over the summer of 2022

I've made it back home and have crunched the numbers for the whole walk. Total distance: 1,331 miles. Daily distance: 13.7 miles. Average speed: 3.0 mph. A massive thank you to everyone that has supported me on here, and everyone that has helped me along the way!

Day 97: Nybster to John O Groats, 11 miles. After over 3 months of walking my adventure comes to an end. It started out wet and overcast but developed into a lovely last day. The John O Groats trail has been tough going at times but has provided a spectacular ending to the walk.

Day 96: Wick to Nybster, 16 miles. The penultimate day of walking and it was another good one on the John O Groats trail. Some more beautiful clifftop walking and a long section on the beach in Sinclair Bay.

Day 95: Lybster to Wick, 14 miles. Started the day with a final bit of road walking to pick up the John O Groats trail at Whaligoe. From there it was a stunning coastal walk along the clifftops.

Day 94: Dunbeath to Lybster, 14 miles. Another day on the John O Groats trail. Still challenging walking but I think I'm getting better at the navigational side of things. The trail also provides some excellent scenery and wildlife spotting opportunities.

Day 93: Helmsdale to Dunbeath, 16 miles. Another very tough day! Took the John O Groats trail as far as Berriedale but found that the terrain made for very slow going. Switched onto the roads for the last 6 miles to make the day a bit more manageable.

Day 92: Brora to Helmsdale, 11 miles. A beautiful sunny day, but not the easiest day of walking. Uneven and unclear footpaths made things tricky at times and I think it will be more of the same tomorrow! I did manage to spot a seal in the sea though!

Day 91: Golspie to Brora, 8 miles. A nice short day to start the last week, including seeing the impressive Dunrobin Castle.

Day 89: Tain to Dornoch, 9 miles. Another long bridge crossing today over the Dornoch Firth. A nice varied day of walking on the Jon O Groats trail, which has been quite gentle so far but I know is going to get tough further North!

Day 88: Alness to Tain, 13 miles. A beautiful morning that got more and more cloudy as the day went on. Still a nice day for a walk along some quiet Highland backroads.

Day 87: Culbokie to Alness, 10 miles. Another day that started with a long bridge crossing, this time Cromarty Bridge. After a couple of tough days it was nice to have a short and flat day mostly following a cycle path.

Day 86: Inverness to Culbokie, 16 miles. First day on the John O Groats trail so it definitely feels like I'm on the home stretch! Started the day by crossing Kessock Bridge before spending most of the day on quiet back roads.

Day 85: Drumnadrochit to Inverness, 19 miles. Last day of the Great Glen Way and a pretty tough one to finish with. Got my last sight of Loch Ness before climbing up into the hills and eventually reaching Inverness and my first sight of the East Coast of the UK.

Day 83: Fort Augustus to Invermoriston, 13 miles. Took the high route out if Fort Augustus, which meant plenty of climbing for the day but also led to some fantastic views over Loch Ness.

Day 82: Invergarry to Fort Augustus, 9 miles. A really nice walk today. Started off in the woods above Loch Oich before rejoining the Caledonian Canal to Fort Augustus and my first sight of Loch Ness, which I'll be seeing plenty more of in the next few days.

Day 81: Spean Bridge to Invergarry, 20 miles. A long day, but mostly nice weather and easy walking kept it manageable. A large part of the day was spent walking around the creatively named Loch Lochy.
