Composer of music for orchestras, choirs, chamber groups, opera companies... pushing notes around on the page is my specialty.

Past halfway on the orchestral version of my song cycle "Miss Carr in Seven Scenes". A challenge to transform the original piano into an orchestra. But with the voice of Krisztina Szabó in my head, who needs more inspiration? Thanks to @VSOrchestra and the Hugh Davidson Fund.
This. Orchestral scores in C. The conductor needs to know how it sounds, the player needs to know how it’s played. (Band scores on the other hand, that transposed tradition will never go away…)
Note to all composers: write your scores in C. The usual octave transpositions are ok. I spent 6 weeks deciphering the chords in Elektra. After that I decided I’ll not put any conductor colleagues through that unnecessary ordeal with my own scores.
Framing the climactic aria from @zenfandango and my chamber opera "The Laurels" as a murder confession is absolutely inspired. Thank you @RedshiftSociety and especially Heather and Indra! youtube.com/watch?v=AIqXxS…

Every track on this album is a gem of a performance from a profoundly amazing team. Grateful for the gift of my "Everything Already Lost" (poems by Jan Zwicky) being part of it.

Calgary, this Sunday afternoon at cSpace, Astralis presents a string quartet concert including my String Quartet #3 (sonata distorta), a study in obsession and madness based on Tolstoy's novella The Kreutzer Sonata. Plus quartets by Mozart and Swoboda. cspacemardaloop.com/event/astralis…
Chuffed that my and librettist @zenfandango Michael Lewis MacLennan's little opera "The Laurels" is part of the Glenn Gould School's evening of short Canadian chamber operas at Toronto's @the_rcm. Tix are only $20. This Friday (link), repeats on Saturday. rcmusic.com/events-and-per…
With writer James Fagan Tait and singer/hurdy-gurdist Bud Roach, workshopping our queer troubadour songs "Fin'amor" in residence at @MusicCentreBC's Adaskin Salon. What a gift to be in the room together, immersed in collaborative energy! Thanks @CanadaCouncil for the support.
Thanks @OrchidEnsemble (@Lan_Tung erhu, Dailin Hsieh zheng, Jonathan Bernard percussion) for a great workshop on "Noctiluca", inspired by the beauty and danger of the "Blue Tears" algae blooms of the East China Sea (and elsewhere). Supported by @SOCANFoundation.
Tonight! Thanks to Dion and Pierre-André for including my Cavafy songs "Of Passion's Tide".🌈
Celebrating the maestro: Last evening a few Vancouver friends gathered to mark what would have been @BramwellTovey’s 70th birthday. Gone too soon, lovingly remembered, ever missed. @gazechristopher #Bramwell
