3. The Dunning-Kruger Effect: Incompetence blinds you to your own incompetence. People with low ability often overestimate their competence, while experts often underestimate theirs. True wisdom is knowing what you do not know.

why is it always “how much ARR?” and never “how ARR you?”

Great quote from @btfaw today: "If you have an audience, you’re a publisher." Financial institutions, commerce brands, and marketplaces are now media businesses, whether they realize it or not.

Timing is everything. Being right, but early can often times feel like you are wrong. There are many startups that are multi-year, overnight success stories as they wait for markets to evolve.

Wild. Reinforces the need to constantly ask: what’s the true differentiation here and how defensible is it?

Terrifying Reality of 2025 Financial sponsor built a prototype in 2 weeks during diligence on an AI-healthcare company. Prototype outperformed the target’s core product in clinician testing. Deal killed.

I continue to be shocked when an AI wrapper, a company that puts a user interface layer on a third party's technology, gets funded at a big valuation. These are easily replicable. I am always looking for defensibility and differentiation.

A founder told me recently: “AI is not a modification, it’s a metamorphosis.” That framing stuck with me. It’s not about improving workflows — it’s about reinventing them.

Too many people have TSA pre check now. The lines are many times longer than the normal lines.

Time is my most valuable resource. Not enough hours in the day.

Marketers squeezed by shrinking TV ad supply should look where the next big audience already is: 🎮 Gaming. As @LUMA_Partners@TKawaja says: gaming isn’t just another channel, it’s a conversion engine that Madison Ave can learn from. beet.tv/2025/10/luma-p… @zyngaads

Ad markets balance themselves over time. Every channel eventually becomes efficient, and scale gets harder as CAC rises. The best internet companies have a unique or viral distribution channel outside of spend on social and search ads.

Being valued as a "unicorn" (I term I hate to begin with), should only count if you received liquidity. Valuation is just an opinion until you can cash it in
