The guy wrote the book on effective software mastery (Pragmatic engineer) - seems like a pretty opportune moment to solve some organization problems, that is if you're willing to listen to him.

So, I'm looking for a job! Internal or external consultant, devrel, training, team fixing, design, architecture. WFH or travel the world. So, if you know any company that has a Dave-shaped hole, please email me. Some more about me on my site. Links below. Many thanks.

This is incredible. If you don't know, Ash is a domain modelling library - so you model your domain, then describe how that model interacts with infrastructure - like this ashTypescript, or postgres or another db, or multitennant dbs, or policies for gql - or literally anything.

Using ash_typescript, it was easy to wire up a virtualized TanStack Table without needing to design an API! Ash made it easy to model the domain, React made it easy to have a high performance list. Two ecosystems bridged by a little code generation! #MyElixirStatus

Jason is a wise product and engineering mind, and a thought leader in the ruby community. He will provide a huge amount of value in guiding the development of a successful product.

Update on my job search: I've decided I'm specifically looking for FTE (as opposed to consulting/contracting) and I'm specifically seeking an EM/VPE/CTO role. If you'd like to talk, you can DM me or email me at [email protected].

With every yes, comes a stress.

great tidbits and resources here. And it's on github so you can follow easily!

My first manager at Uber started a GitHub page back at the time with resources to become a more proficient developer - ones he personally found helpful (he did not have a CS degree). I realized he is *still* updating it, 7 years later! A neat list: github.com/charlax/profes…

Steve Carell did not know that the cast would sing '9,986,000 Minutes', as it was kept a secret from him. His reaction to the song is real and not scripted.

If you have 10 things that all depend on each other, and you improve each by 10%, the combined result is a 160% improvement. (1.1^10 ~= 2.6) Idea for dev teams 2024: Find 10 aspects of your work you can improve by 10% and perhaps end the year more than twice as good.

FLAME is out! 🔥 Auto scale by wrapping any app code in a function and have that block run in a temporary copy of your app. It's time to rethink Serverless. No rewrites. No bespoke runtimes. No outrageous layers of complexity. Blog + screencast 👉 fly.io/blog/rethinkin…

This reminds me of Rich Hickeys hammock driven programming, when you stew on a problem for long enough and give it enough space, new paths and options open up to you. Here is a thread how they realize they deal with BEAM system constraints to implement the serverless FLAME™️

I should have mentioned it in the post, but shout out to @peregrine for coming up with the FLAME concept together. Also @josevalim helping work through the impl details, as always ❤️ 🧵

DanKulkov's tweet image. Tell me your product isn't profitable without telling me:

i was today years old when I learned Deming actually said: “It is wrong to suppose that if you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it – a costly myth.”

There is a popular Apple Pie Position, which goes: “If you don’t measure it, you cannot improve it” This belief is often harmful on early-stage teams. This is more accurate: “If you don’t measure it, you cannot prove to some people that you improved it” Impact vs. Optics…
