I've experienced a bit of imposter syndrome in the past few weeks, Who am I to host a podcast? But I quickly remind myself that my first foray into mass media was 20 years ago - built a print magazine from scratch

Why 23mile Podcast? ☢️ The show is a guide for venture-backed founders tackling that lonely, painful stretch between early traction and transformative success Each week, we bring on a founder or acquirer to share inside track on what it really takes to Build. Scale. Exit.

Rejecting a $100M acquisition offer is a tough call But Eric did it! He & his board chose to continue to build rather than abandon the startup's mission "But ultimately, we failed" 📉 @23milecapital

Being a CEO and board member of a VC-backed startup seems great But it's not all fun and games as Eric Peck deftly captures with the "CEO Pressure Sandwich" Board demanding growth up top. Team needing support below. You're stuck in the middle. It's what he describes as the…

Met up with a long time founder friend and reflected on our journeys It is one of the most wealth destroying paths out there - for founders but also most angels Launch a tech startup only and only if 1️⃣ you’re well connected and known in the space and by VCs 2️⃣ have a…

On the point about things going wrong after Series B, exactly what happened here > Received $100m acquisition offer, board rejected it > Raised ~$14 million Series B > Crashed when couldn't raise further funds x.com/Kayodeodeleye/…

The latest data from @cartainc is brutal. Of 547 Series B deals in 2018: - Figma did 100x ... but - 39% are worth 1x or less - Only 34% are worth 2x or more after 7 years But - 11.7% do achieve 10x returns ... You gotta be in those ones. Even at Series B, have to pick…

10th guest on the podcast is ⁨great definition of "entrepreneurship is not a straight line." He founded & built Australian startup Swoop that achieved the world's first vaccine by drone, got a $100 million acquisition offer, rejected it... youtu.be/q66xXM_qLD0

Boots at the Beach

I had a “slight chest pain” 4 weeks ago, coincidentally or miraculously I was in a hospital for something else. Mentioned in passing to doctor and he ordered some tests. D-dimer, X ray and CT scans confirmed I had pulmonary embolism

Regular reminder: As you get older, you really have to start listening to your body. Feel a little pain (not talking about lactic burn or fatigue) during a work out? The work out is *over*. Chest pain the middle of the night? Doctor’s office the *next day*. There’s no…
