Lab Halloween fun before lab reception for Weiqing Xu’s departure to the lab of @JonasRies We will miss you Weiqing!
Tracking has always been at the ❤️ of the scientific method, from planetary motion to single particles. Weiqing’s thesis intro on tracking was so beautiful we turned it into a perspective in JCP who then selected it as a #Scilight. Take a look! 😊 aip.org/scilights/trac…
News story our APS fellowship. A testament to the great people we work with (and the unwavering rigor of Bayesian approaches, impervious to hype) 😊 🙏 news.asu.edu/b/20251021-asu…
It’s an Honor to be named 2025 @APSphysics Fellow. 🙏 our lab members and collaborators. Citation: “For pioneering contributions to Bayesian method development in biological physics, particularly […] to imaging and single-molecule experiments. #APSFellow
🎉 Congrats to our new class of APS Fellows. They’ve been recognized by their peers for exceptional contributions to #research, #education, #leadership, and #PublicService. Learn more about them: go.aps.org/4n2ksOe
The journey continues. UT Austin and Oden tomorrow and Friday. Here with Dima Makarov :) (Discussing Bach, Richter, Gould, Yuja Wang, and maybe some single molecule 😊)
Thanks to the CTBP for the wonderful invitation for a seminar at Rice! 🙏 Joining me are Tolya Kolomeisky and Oleg Igoshin.
Lab fun at orientation weekend! Get ready for awesome science in 2025-2026 academic year 😊
Thanks Sai for the invite! Excited to be at #MM2025 for the first time to talk about SPAD tracking. It’s speed (1 bit pixels) vs contrast (>bit pixels). Key idea: avoid localization/linking when tracking as these leverage grayscale available to detectors with high bit-depth.
Don't miss symposium B04 at #MM2025 in #SLC today! Our fantastic lineup of speakers includes @LabPresse, Lydia Kisley, Gil Bub, Peter O'Toole, Aussie Suzuki, and Bingying Chen! Looking forward to co-chairing with Prof. Jay Potts. @MicroscopySoc
Can we learn motion models from post-processed tracks? 🧐 Not really... 😢 Emission noise accounts for ~99% of the likelihood. TLDR: What you think is anomalous diffusion… might just be noise. 🤷♂️🤷♂️ 🔗 Read more in our latest preprint: arxiv.org/abs/2507.05599 #Biophysics
Returning from Montreal🇨🇦. Some observations: 1) previously unseen Canadian flags on 50% of homes. 2) discussions asking how I reconcile splitting my life across borders. 3) deserted airport border crossings. 4) boycotted US products everywhere/canceled Amazon accounts etc.
Our first work in Time Series Forecasting is finally officially published on IOP's Machine Learning iopscience.iop.org/article/10.108… Our method (top row in each) consistently outperforms ARIMA and DeepAR in both point prediction, but also in the quality of uncertainty quantification.
🚨Just published in @eLife 🚨 Want to reconstruct accurate bacterial population counts in original sample from plate counts obtained from diluted samples? 🦠 Just out!! doi.org/10.7554/eLife.…
