Burning question for the hive-mind: does the 1809 Philadelphia edition of William Roscoe's "The Council of Dogs" contain the earliest American illustrations of dogs?
Awesome! Looks like we haven't posted anything on Twitter since March 2020, despairing at the advent of the the COVID-19 pandemic at which time it seemed like we were living in a French existential novel. Good thing we didn't start smoking Gauloises cigarettes!
"You have to choose: to live, or to recount." ~~ Sartre, Nausea [1938], trans. Robert Baldick (2000) p. 61
Two days to go in New York! One of our favorites we are exhibiting this weekend: 32 watercolors comprising the ONLY surviving visual record of the Frescoes of the Villa Peretti Montalto, Rome, built for Sixtus V. #NYIABF20 #architecture #rarebooks
Not too shabby. Looking forward to seeing you all at the New York International Antiquarian Book Fair! #NYIABF20 #rarebooks #womenshistory #bindings #czechlit #architecture #photography #americana
A lovely recent acquisition of approx. 300 newspapers regarding the 1963 March on Washington and the 1968 Poor People's Campaign. Provenance: from an original March protestor. Arranged by yours truly. #blackhistorymonth #rarebooks #forsale
A big thank you to all who came out to see us at the Bibliography Week ABAA Showcase! We acquired some exciting new inventory that we look forward to sharing with y'all. Now onto the New York fair!
Hoarder is such a strong word. We prefer the term "General Enthusiasts" or "It-May-Come-In-Handy-Someday Scholars." Why just today I used an old ring box to store a miniature book. 5 years in a desk drawer did nothing to diminish its usefulness.
when book lovers turn 30 they gain access to the following subclasses: - Hoarder Vulture - Library Minotaur - Spectacle Golem - Grammar Paladin - Stack Goblin - Very-Specific-Niche Dragon - Corner Folder Gremlin
Another @BostonBookFair come and gone! Thanks to all who came out and stopped by our booth. We enjoyed catching up with old friends and meeting many new faces.

*packing for the Boston fair* Bookseller 1: Hand me the foam. Bookseller 2: *hands foam* B1: No the other foam! B2: *hands other foam* B1: No! The foam! B2: *hesitantly hands something over* B1: Yes! What do you call it? B2: Bubble wrap.
In honor of Geoffrey Chaucer, who died #OTD in 1400, we are bidden to celebrate a current exhibition @ransomcenter, Stories To Tell, which features, among other things, an excellent display showing how readers throughout the ages have sought to understand #Chaucer.
We are feeling #tulipmania today! During the Dutch Golden Age, tulip prices boomed from 1634 until the trade's financial crash in 1637. This pamphlet is an intriguing contemporary witness to the aftermath of what is widely considered the first futures market in history.
O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay! 'Tis a wonderful day indeed as we launch our first ever social media account! If you are interested in bibliophilic wonders, the strange, the weird, the never-ordinary, then enjoy! And we will try not to use so many exclamations going forward!
