It is believed that the eagle and snake was a sign given by one of their gods & the place where it happened is today’s capital, Mexico City.
The emblem in the middle of the flag, an eagle eating a snake on top of a cactus, stems from a legendary story of Aztecs.
Green: signifies hope and prosperity. White: represents peace and harmony. Red: symbolizes the blood of Mexican heroes.
The design of the Mexican flag was used in 1821 and its colors - green, white, and red are the national liberation army’s colors.
Today February 24th is Día de la Bandera or "Flag Day" a national holiday celebrated in Mexico, implemented in 1937.
