This is just regulation and centralization by another name. The velocity of GenAI use corresponds to regulatory speed. Decentralized, ad hoc regulation is probably the most healthy format at this stage. Save for a pure nat sec carve out on infra and foundation models etc

Is there going to be a recording or live broadcast?

"Rights for Robots?" Tomorrow (7 October 2025) I will be at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois for an event at the Orpheum Theatre. The event is free and open to the public...including non-human persons, AI companions, and robots.

It's very important for the U.S. to proactively prepare for legal issues. AI & Robots must always remain as possessions, not entities lawsofrobots.com/#goals

There's so much legacy code in a hundred different industries, maintenance coding will still be around for the next 20 years at least.

It's been nearly 6 months, and this might have come true. But not quite how he meant it… If AI is 10x more verbose than human coders, then AI could be writing 90% of the code, without humans writing any less.

David is the clearest thinker on this and his books reflect that

The first book to take #AI #welfare seriously was "The Machine Question" @mitpress 2012. In it, I found that welfare models based on previous efforts to expand the Moral Circle (i.e. animal rights philosophy) were well intentioned but profoundly misguided. mitpress.mit.edu/9780262534635

And treating AI as an entity that strives for freedom means you're feeding into anthropomorphising a tool with human desires and motivations. Definitely a path to avoid.

As any philosopher will tell you, this kind of self-reporting (especially from an LLM) is fraught with epistemological problems. And as any social scientist will tell you, it is troubled by profound methodological challenges even when it involves human subjects.

Thanks for the info I had never heard of that @David_Gunkel

Decentralized technologies can facilitate more transparent and accountable decision-making processes, but we must prioritize ethics and responsibility in AI development. Transparency in AI development is crucial for ensuring accountability and trust in AI systems.
