On this day in 1960, four black college students staged a sit-in at a whites-only lunch counter at Woolworth's in Greensboro, NC. They sparked a national movement across the country. Instructions were simple: sit quietly and wait to be served. #BlackHistoryMonth

Shut up. Taraji has the spotlight on her NOW. Ain’t no telling if/when she’ll have it again. So she’s using this moment to highlight what she and other Black Women face in the industry. Applaud her courage instead of critiquing it.

Taraji should have waited until after the Color Purple hype was over to speak publicly on her pay being too low.

If moderates don’t take this country from the extremists, we’re in a lot of trouble. These people are not right, they are just the one’s holding the bullhorn.

The Transatlantic Slave Trade and Jim Crow aren’t “Black History” but European, American and World History. Our history is about a people with roots and hope, who suffered and challenged these evils as multi-faceted, dynamic, diverse beings. + Black History includes Black Joy.

There is no @VP or @staceyabrams without Fannie Lou Hamer and Ella Baker. Good morning.

We need a Voting Rights Amendment to the Constitution. It needs to grant the right to vote to all citizens of the country. Instead of Amendments that state reasons people can’t be denied the right, the Constitution should just guarantee this right. #VotingRights

We all should want it to be “easy to vote, hard to cheat.” Unfortunately, because the voting laws being constructed & passed by many state legislators are in response to an extremely detrimental lie, that is not their authentic goal. Voter suppression is. We can’t allow that.
