In October 2025, the government of 𝙈𝙖𝙡𝙖𝙬𝙞 — under President Prof. @PeterMutharika — declared a “state of disaster” for 11 of its 28 districts, responding to an assessment that projected roughly 4 million people would face acute food insecurity in 2025/26 (October–March).
We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and community of Inkosi Theresa Kachindamoto. Until her passing, she was not only a cherished partner of the @NthaFoundation, but also one of Malawi’s most powerful voices for justice, dignity, and opportunity.
As I write my second book: ‘𝗙𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲’, I reflect a lot on where and how I grew up: in a space where I could… just be. The fight for 𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙫𝙞𝙤𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙨𝙩 𝙬𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙜𝙞𝙧𝙡𝙨 is to me something that is rooted deeply in…

In 2003, 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗮 𝗞𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗼 — the youngest of 𝘴𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘴𝘪𝘣𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 in a family of traditional rulers in Malawi’s Dedza District — was chosen as the next 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗲𝗳 of the district. She became the first female chief, leading over…
Malawi’s first female Inkosi: 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗮 𝗞𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗼 has over the past few decades dedicated her life to championing the fight against child marriage. As of May, 2024, she, with her team had ended 𝟮,𝟰𝟰𝟵 marriages, and enabled the girls to go back to school.
We are going to 𝘉𝘰𝘨𝘰𝘵á! Very very excited to launch @LessonsCon in this way very soon 🔗 linkedin.com/posts/nthanda_…
As we mark this World Press Freedom Day, I am counting down to hosting the #FPNN (Family Planning News Network) in Malawi for the first time in two weeks, in partnership with the Gates Institute. We celebrate the power of media and journalism to shed light on important issues,…
My favorite topic: deconstructing everything that I know. I am glad you enjoyed the talk. The only way we move forward is by questioning ALL the systems that got us here, and mapping a new way forward. And when you have a moment, read: byntha.com/deconstructing/
That was an awesome presentation. Quite thrilling too, especially after you sparked up that heated conversation about needing to question everything. Worth every moment 🙌🏾🙏🏾
I was reflecting today on why I never blogged about international relations when I was in NY, and it just hit me that as a part of my work with the @UN, I was not permitted to continue running a personal blog. I hated the fact so deeply, as I felt I had given up my voice; but I…
Started my day at 3AM with this conference. My MBA classmates say ‘you really believe in Malawi 2063’; and I DO. One of my greater joys re my career was that my work with the @UNDP_Evaluation coincided with @UNDPMalawi Independent Country Programme Evaluation (the last one…
Funny enough, I am up at 3am because I am speaking to Malawian students about digital transformation in relation to (championing) the Malawi 2063, and I remember thinking yesterday ‘what can I tell them?’ Woke up to the email that I am published, almost as if Universe had to…
With deep appreciation for your discourse. Let’s do it again on my next sojourn, shall we? 🫶🏽🤍 For more of my thoughts on this, and perhaps some statistical models as previously proposed (I still will not debate, but I invite your personal thinking): byntha.com/deconstructing
I now have to write an executive summary about our Spain trip. It’s a 3 credit course; hoping for a 4.0. I have to write about our business explorations and cultural immersion, and I am tempted to include the discourse that followed here. Perhaps you can be a part of my 4.0 lol
Deeply enjoyed producing this. Have a listen: youtube.com/playlist?list=…

Exactly 6 years ago today (10 November, 2018), I had just landed in Kigali, Rwanda—to attend my first international conference. It was on that trip that the dream of the @NthaFoundation was born. I have spent the past 6 years investing heavily and deeply in my community—what has…

At the 9th #APC (African Population Conference), I had the privilege to sit down with @UAPS_UEPA’s outgoing president, Dr. Donatien Beguy — a renowned population scientist, with vast experience in research, capacity building, and knowledge translation. lessonsconversation.com/9th-apc/
Meaningful youth engagement: more than just a seat at the table — ensuring young people are included in all stages of decision-making and implementation processes, and that their voices are heard and valued. This was my message for #AfricaDay 2024: youtube.com/watch?v=UIe6pe…
The @LessonsCon was a cocreation with my supervisors when I worked for @UNDP_Evaluation. We wanted to create a space for synthesis: chatting to experts about what works in international development. When I left, I sought permission to continue working on the show. It was granted.
The #FamilyPlanningNewsNetwork team has landed in Malawi for the inaugural reporting trip, at the perimeters of the #APC2024. We are going beyond the conference, and traveling to local communities to engage with #CommunityVoices — uplifting SRHR stories from around the world.
