Glad DeVos is on the way out but holding our breath on who the successor will be.

'It hurts your bones': Private special ed schools can restrain kids with disabilities 1,000s of times. Parents might not know. news.yahoo.com/hurts-bones-pr…

Level Field Alliance reposted

“School psychologists who conduct special ed assessments are more likely to over-categorize black students as “emotionally disturbed” or “intellectually disabled” -- and miss signs of learning disabilities like dyslexia.” kalw.org/post/ca-school…

DANGER ALERT: lobbying efforts are taking place to allow districts to cut special education budgets! disabilityscoop.com/2020/05/29/sch…

Bingo! While $ is very important, it is only one piece of the solution. Getting state education agencies to enforce disability laws and increasing teacher training to help complex children are the other missing pieces.

Folks, IT'S ACTION TIME! Although as most know, when it comes to advocating for the education of children with disabilities, it is always action time!

Students with disabilities are in crisis - and no one is talking about it. We need to make sure these students aren't left behind. Call your Senators and tell them to pass emergency special education funding.

The divide widens: of 100 public school districts and charters nationwide, only 22 of them are requiring real-time teaching. nytimes.com/2020/05/09/us/…

Mark your calendars to see this important film on how we need to organize to affect change in our schools. mashdup.us/our-dyslexic-c…

BINGO: If ED officials have more money, they’ll know best how to spend it. But for complicated reasons like deficiencies in teacher training that’s often not true. Many standard pedagogical approaches conflict with what scientists know about learning. forbes.com/sites/nataliew…

Now would be a good time to revisit the issue of school nurse shortages.

Thought about re-opening schools: 60% of schools lack a part-time or full-time nurse. If we are re-opening and expected to monitor kids' health more closely, not just take temperatures when they come in, but actively ensure kids are asymptomatic, how are we going to do this?

Kids take a blow to learning and social development in these districts. wsj.com/articles/some-…
