This is truly the best defense of CC BY I've seen. I don't know that I agree that CC BY + author copyright retention is the best tool to achieve this but I certainly see why some would + it's a highly defensible position.

Someone made the point that the insurrection had a festive air to it - like "hey this is fun!" This is spot on. And it's the *exact* same type of energy their grandparents brought to the lynching.
Just remember this photo when you cast your next vote. Because it’s not just @realDonaldTrump who has undermined democracy today. It’s all of the politicians who have legitimised him and continue to fail to condemn the actions he incited.
