I had a student who never turned on his camera because he was experiencing homelessness. I had another student who was sharing a two bedroom apartment with a total of 7 family members. I had another one who was living in an unfinished basement. So check your privilege.
Just saw a tweet saying “Both the vaccinated and the unvaccinated can catch Covid.” A doctor responded: “Both Serena Williams and I can play tennis."

I am TOTALLY stealing this idea!! Thanks so much for sharing - what a wonderful way to build relationships in the halls!
People tweeting about the question of homework over the holiday break? Y’all. I wouldn’t even give homework on a random Friday. Give the kids a break already.
Part of why boosters are so needed for the already vaxxed IS because so many are still unvaccinated. But the same logic suggests govt should provide n95/ KN95s for the people who WILL mask, even while many won’t mask at all. New variant, new tools. Optimize where you can.
Released today.
The ALA Executive Board and the Boards of Directors for all of ALA's eight divisions have released a joint statement opposing widespread efforts to censor books in U.S. schools and libraries. #FReadom #IntellectualFreedom bit.ly/ALA-Censorship…
The more time I spend in schools and classrooms the more I am in awe of the resilience and dedication of both teachers and admin. In these tough by times you keep showing up for kids and for that we all own you a debt of gratitude. You all are heroes!
The problem is not the dude who got a $1,400 check 7 months ago and a 75 cent raise at Arby's. The problem is 745 billionaires who became $2,000,000,000,000 during the pandemic while over half of U.S. workers still live paycheck to paycheck.
EDUCATORS and LIBRARIANS: do your students like graphic novels? I’m giving away 2 class sets (25 copies each) of my new one, The Hunger Heroes: Missed Meal Mayhem (here and on Instagram)! To enter: RT this tweet and follow me. Bonus entry: tag a pal who might like to enter too!
End-of-the-week teacher tired is real.
It’s Veteran’s Day. And, somewhere in America, school board members are suggesting books need to be burned. Book burnings. Not what I served for. Not what they died for. Not what we sacrificed for. Put the goddam matches back in your pockets. Get those books back on the shelves.
My 8-year-old asked me "Mom, why do schools only track the bad things that you do and not the good things?"
I wonder how many teachers had to sit through mental health PDs today that did absolutely nothing for their mental health
If you see a teacher, be kind to them. It is the end of the first grading period. They’re busy grading three months of work that students just turned in.
Please get vaccinated.
