Workplace retaliation is when an employer or superior punishes an employee for actions unrelated to their performance, such as speaking up about a toxic work environment or reporting sexual harassment.

A Barton Springs lifeguard had signed up to speak to Austin City Council today. She did not show up. We found out that Parks leadership talked to her and so she decided not to speak. Parks apparently did not want the public or city council to hear what she was going to say.
Austin employs hundreds of “regular temporary” workers year-round, some for years with no right to appeal discipline or termination. Seasonal temps only work in summer. City Council can fix this by extending civil service rights to long-term temps, people who keep Austin running.
