University of Michigan has zero tolerance for inappropriate relationships that managers have with subordinates. City of Austin has close to 100 percent tolerance level. In fact, Austin punished a teen subordinate, plus people who report such relationships. usatoday.com/story/sports/n…

Council Member Paige Ellis is working hard to get dental and health insurance added back to the budget for all temporary employees, which is what the policy has been for a few years now until HR took it away for some temporary employees this year. Thank you @PaigeForAustin!

Austin lifeguard, UT art senior and military veteran Scott Cobb will be part of an on-field moment during Saturday's game, representing Army vets after helping run the Texas flag onto the field. Military vet undergrads at UT: 0.47 %. Grad students: 4.22 %. Total UT vets 1.16 %.

A report from a Barton Springs Pool lifeguard says assaults have occurred throughout the summer and beyond, to women and men lifeguards. Assaults mostly to men, lots of harrassment to women.

It is possible for a lifeguard to sue a city parks department in federal court for wrongful termination. chron.com/gulf-coast/art…


A Barton Springs lifeguard had signed up to speak to Austin City Council today. She did not show up. We found out that Parks leadership talked to her and so she decided not to speak. Parks apparently did not want the public or city council to hear what she was going to say.

Austin employs hundreds of “regular temporary” workers year-round, some for years with no right to appeal discipline or termination. Seasonal temps only work in summer. City Council can fix this by extending civil service rights to long-term temps, people who keep Austin running.
