We read the Mary & Martha story today at small group and after the atrocious comments I read on the internet today about women theologians I think we all need to hear the words of Jesus: “Mary has chosen what is better and it will not be taken away from her.” Not by anyone.

If we don’t trust that our Father sees and will reward good done in secret, we will play to the wrong audience with its paltry praise. If we don’t lay up for ourselves treasures in heaven we are settling for trinkets.

Given the numbers of suffering and traumatized, the trauma of this world is one of the supreme opportunities before the church today. It is the call of God, as His body in this world, to follow our Head in His tender care for the suffering in our midst.

The more we practice deceit the more incapable we are of speaking or even recognizing truth. Deceit functions like a narcotic and it is ingested in order to silence guilt or empathy for others so that a deadened soul can continue its destructions.

It is always the responsibility of the person with power to maintain the integrity of the relationship. Always.

Oh wow. Amazing poise and faith in Christ. Brought me to tears.

Shelbys father, Officer Richard Houston, was murdered last week in Texas. I don’t know if I’ve ever witnessed such a powerful display of God’s mercy & grace. The next time our lost neighbor, co-worker, or family member aggravates us...remember the words of this grieving daughter.

Theology 101: The question should never be, “Is this action liberal or conservative…socialist or capitalist…woke or anti-woke?” The question should always be, “Does this honor God by loving my neighbor, putting their interests before mine, and living the fruit of the Spirit?”

Know Christ so well you can discern what is unlike Him no matter the seductive or religious garb it wears. God is building His kingdom in the hearts of men and women, not in the externals we have come to love and protect and praise.

Watching free pirated movies online or piggybacking on somebody’s streaming service beyond their licensing agreement is theft. It is not a “hack”; it is a sin. You are not being “thrifty”; you are being wicked. Don’t be proud; be ashamed.

What kind of person treats someone like this and then brags about it during an interview at an evangelical church? currentpub.com/2021/08/22/wha…

When we do not understand an abuser's capacity for deceit we make it is easy for the offender to continue in deception and sadly, often call it “grace”.  If it lacks truth then it is not grace.

The length of the grieving is determined by the griever, not by how long you, as a comforter, can stand to be sad.  Your work is to be with them where they are, not drag them out where you are more comfortable.

Corporate worship is designed to help you to see your sin more clearly and mourn more it deeply, so that you would see more clearly your need for the Savior and celebrate more deeply the glory of his grace.

You can stick a lot of Bible verses on your politics without it being truly shaped by the life, death, and resurrection of Christ and everything that means for human communities. It’s like “having the appearance of godliness but denying its power.” (2 Tim 3:5)

Theology 101: Remember back in AD 155 when a celebrity pastor was somebody who served the Lord 86 years, prayed for hours, confronted heretics, fed soldiers who came to arrest him, and was burned alive and stabbed to death for his faith? Times have changed, I guess.

Theology 101: Some Christians today appear to have a greater love for the world’s politics than for the church’s people—and a greater affection for their earthly homeland than for the heavenly kingdom.
