There are now 1,601 chain retailer and hospitality brands that have emerged in the last decade, bringing the total number of chain brands to 3,732. This increased diversity in the market compared to 10 years ago raises the question: What will the landscape look like in a decade?
Leasing momentum across retail parks remained strong in H1 2023, whereas shopping centre vacancy has continued to fall from its H1 2021 peak. Compared to retail parks and shopping centres, high streets have struggled to reach the same levels of recovery.
We’ve seen store closures in the first half of this year increase from 24,832 to 27,504. Alongside this openings have slowed just slightly going from 23,909 at the same period last year, to 23,504 this year.
