Having enough water flowing in America's rivers makes barge shipping possible. Having too much makes it impossible. Right now, there is much, much, much too much. nyti.ms/2R7ZFeY

In @MayorMemphis’ weekly update email, he touts four years of changes to city services and how his administration has paid for those changes. And, in an election year, he notes something else: taxes have gone down.

$FDX $AMZN
Statement:

The incentives involved in this project have two former partners — Loews and THM — and @CityOfMemphis brawling with the owners of the Downtown Sheraton in court. Being able to use a special tax and your local sales tax $$ to pay off your loans is a big deal, it seems.

From yesterday: Loews, the apparent winner in the Memphis convention center hotel wars, says it never promised anything to its former partner, Townhouse Management Co. (owner of 100 N. Main). bizjournals.com/memphis/news/2…

And, finally, I’m here at Benjamin Hooks Library for another @mlgw Power Supply Advisory Team meeting. You won’t be reading a meeting story about this, but a piece about a public utility evaluating its options is sort of normal — just not in @TVAnews.

Now, I’m in Bartlett at the Shelby County Joint Economic & Community Development Board. Gwyn Fisher of @TNECD is here presenting about the Memphis Regional Megasite, which has seen an uptick of interest in the past few months, she says. Don’t worry, you will read more about this.

Good morning, I’m at a Memphis Convention Center board meeting. Memphis Tourism has been concocting some new logos to pair with the $200 million in renovations, trying to evoke blues and the river. Here are some pictures:

Signs & speakers at @MEM_Council advocating for passage of incentives for @VisitGraceland. EPE head Joel Weinshanker has been searching for support in Whitehaven for those incentives, which have stalled at council. Graceland has already received about $140 million in tax breaks.

"Bluff City Law" will officially be shot in Memphis, confirming what we reported last week. The project could receive about $4.25 million in incentives. Story to come.

.@MEM_Council is considering a resolution that would keep $5 entry fee in place on Beale Street for the rest of the summer. The fee would be on Friday & Saturday night. Following incidents during @BealeStMusicFes, a $5 was added for select May nights.
