The Marshall County Strings Program will present its elementary and middle school winter concert on Tuesday, December 2, 2025, at 6:30 pm, at the JMHS CPA. Sounds of the holidays will fill the stage with familiar pieces and unique arrangements of traditional carols.

Becky Ryder, an interventionist at Glen Dale Elementary School, has earned the West Virginia Reading Association’s Eddie C. Kennedy Award. This honor recognizes teachers who have made extraordinary contributions in helping students become proficient and passionate readers.

John Marshall High School Band Director Tracey Filben conducted the Marshall University Middle School Honor Band on Friday. Lydia Winland, an 8th grade band student from Moundsville Middle School, participated as a member of the honor band.

More than 150 Marshall County Special Olympians hit the hardwood yesterday to compete in dribbling, shooting and passing events at the annual Special Olympics Basketball competition at JMHS. Peer tutors from Cameron High School and John Marshall High School assisted the athletes.

@MCSWV Superintendent Dr. Shelby Haines taught students in Peyton Bertram’s Introduction to Ag class, at @JMHSMonarchs, how to make pickles and can them. Tony Martinelli, president and CEO of WVU Medicine Reynolds Memorial Hospital, was a guest student in the class on Wednesday.

WV Wraparound is West Virginia’s statewide approach to support children and families. It brings together multiple systems and services to create a coordinated, family-driven plan of care for children with significant behavioral, emotional, or mental health needs.

Dr. Haines signed a proclamation declaring November 17-21, 2025, as American Education Week in Marshall County. Students, faculty and staff will participate in special events all this week. This year’s theme is "Together for Safe, Just & Equitable Schools."

Moundsville Middle School Students of the Month for October are Kenzie Polsinelli (6), Carlee Buzzard (7) and Levi Johnson (8). These students are of good standing in grades and behavior. They were nominated, and then voted on by the MMS faculty.

Central Elementary students, faculty and staff, along with community members, honored American Heroes during the school's annual Veterans Day program on Thursday, November 6, 2025. This year’s ceremony took place on the lawn of the Marshall County Courthouse.

“Play ball!” The popular costumed mascot of the Pittsburgh Pirates, The Pirate Parrot, joined Central Elementary 5th graders for a game of Wiffle ball on Thursday morning. The Pirate Parrot also visited third and fourth grade students in their classrooms.

The Evan G Roberts Trust is thrilled to support the inaugural steel drum ensemble at Moundsville Middle School. The trust recently presented a check to MMS Band Director Nicholas Bruce for $9,000 to help offset the cost of the new steel drums.

The Evan G Roberts Charitable Trust presented Tracey Filben, John Marshall High School Band Director, with a check for $19,000 to sponsor a new drumline for the John Marshall High School Band.
