This is the penultimate station, which will be used for student recording. Students will be able to record stop motion movies using various Legos and mini figs or use the green screen to create their own videos in some exotic location. @MemorialSTEM @LEFforLISD #LEFGrants
This is our interactive learning station where students will be able challenge themselves with word and number games, tangram puzzles and coding challenges using Osmo kits! @MemorialSTEM @LEFforLISD #LEFGrants
This is our Lego table, which will soon be joined by a Lego wall, that will both gives kids a place to create more permanent Lego creations that won’t need to be taken down at the end of a period. @MemorialSTEM @LEFforLISD #LEFGrants
This is our Circuits station where students can play (safely😀) with electricity and circuits, with Magtronix, Snap Circuits and two new sets of Squishy Circuits! @MemorialSTEM @LEFforLISD #LEFGrants
This is our Mechanical Engineering station where students can explore and experiment with machinery in the form of gears by making their own contraptions using K’Nex with gears and Lego Machines Gargets and Chain Reaction sets. @MemorialSTEM @LEFforLISD #LEFGrants
This is our Architecture/Construction station where students can build with Strawbees, Keva Planks, Picasso Tiles and more! @MemorialSTEM @LEFforLISD #LEFGrants
I thought I would also give a brief tour of the new stations in our makerspace, too. This is the dry erase art wall where students can draw and create works of art to show off to the entire school as the walk by the makerspace @MemorialSTEM @LEFforLISD #LEFGrants
The new makerspace @MemorialSTEM, thanks to a @LEFforLISD grant and a generous Memorial family, is up and running! Classes are taking tours of new items and procedures, but one class who managed to come last week before the ice got to start yesterday. Very exciting! #LEFGrants
We also had our 2nd Read Across Memorial Event @MemorialSTEM where fabulous parents and LISD district staff came to share their love of books and read aloud for our students with a total of 45 guest readers and ~100 readings. Amazing! More pics in upcoming family newsletter.
We had an incredible week @MemorialSTEM! So I'm tweeting twice in one day :o After reading a story about a family celebrating Diwali, some students took the optional rangoli LEGO building challenge and crushed it! Look to the upcoming Maverick Family Newsletter for more photos.
3rd grade students @MemorialSTEM decided to use makerspace time to celebrate Red Ribbon Week with a positive message for all of us!

Yesterday, we had our first visit from Toby, a trained therapy dog, who loves to listen to kids read and the kids selected to read had a blast getting to meet Toby and practice their reading skills! @MemorialSTEM
Memorial Library @MemorialSTEM just won the Dr. Nandlal and Sheila Singh Family Teaching Grant through @LEFforLISD and the very generous contributions of Memorial’s very own Singh family! This money will be used to fund big changes in our makerspace! So grateful! #LEFGrants
We had our last meeting for The Forge, our 3D printing club @MemorialSTEM They received their final printed projects where they designed a product to help with a problem in their own lives. They did fantastic work this year!
We’re celebrating the stories of Asian, South Asian and Pacific Islander authors here @MemorialSTEM for May and Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month!
This week the 3rd-5th graders are coding Ozobots with block coding to run mazes they build. They’re doing great while helping them practice giving clear instructions and organizing their thinking in written sequences and problem solving when things don’t go right. @MemorialSTEM
A second grade group remembered their first design from over a month ago and set about rebuilding and improving it once they had free maker space time again today. Here is their improved design. Amazing brain power at work! #makerspacegoals @MemorialSTEM
