Happy #Krampusnacht! This ancient Alpine legend became a companion to Saint Nicholas when The Church tried but failed to ban #Krampus. Saint Nicholas (Santa) rewards good children whilst Krampus finds naughty children, whips them with sticks & sometimes eats them!

Some of my work on display at The Swan Theatre in Worcester. I’ve always loved seeing The Queen with her horses, I have painted her, inspired by a photo of her riding in 1961, she looks so happy in this photograph (photo credit: Royal Collection Trust) #PlatinumJubilee #TheQueen

Fornication and death! The odd scent of Hawthorn! Symbol of May, marriage & fertility. Hawthorn flowers contain the chemical triethylamine, also found in newly rotting flesh. As such, Hawthorn has long been thought to be unlucky within the home! #folklore

In #Folklore, It was considered bad luck to destroy an Ants or ‘Muryan’ nest as they were thought to be the souls of unbaptised children. A piece of tin placed on a ‘bank of the Muryans’ was said to turn to silver if placed at the correct moment in line with the moon’s cycle.

Cockatrice (Or Basilisk) This venomous creature featured in classical literature and The King James Bible. Deadly poisonous with extremely sharp teeth. It could kill all animal or plant life with just its stare or breath. Only the weasel was resistant it. #FolkloreThursday
