You are not your publications. You are not your awards. You are not your grants. You are not your CV. You are a human being.
An email from @nhmrc on 12/10/11 said my grant was unsuccessful. This ended my #research career. I was devastated. Now, 8 yrs later, I know it was the door to new opportunities. I loved research but am much happier & probably more successful in my post research career. Thank you
A great thread with excellent info!
As I’m scoring fellowships I have some suggestions for those writing one, now or in the future: 1- Make it easy for the reader to find the info we need. Use headings, separate types of presentations (oral/poster/presenter/invited) and papers (first author or not)
This is fantastic and just made my morning.

To students starting school today, Please be nice to your teachers. My dad is 53 years old, and not a whiz w technology. He’s called me EVERY day, attempting to practice because he’s so nervous and wants what’s best for his students. Please be patient with them. They’re trying.

NRL is fine but human rights? That shit puts people at risk.
A thread for PIs on supporting Black students: I cried to my PI yesterday. I was explaining that I’m trying my best. Even in the midst of all this, I am TRYING to be a good grad student. I was trying to force myself to write my advancement document all last week. I couldn’t.
This kid is brilliant with her initiative and drive! Anyone got mini toiletries supplies they could send her to help?
As you know I make these little packs of comfort for mob sleeping rough. They’ve got loads in them like deoderant, soap, tissues, snacks, wipes, toothbrush, sanitary items, bandaids, socks, etc. If any one collects hotel toiletries and doesn’t need them, cld you save them for us?
This is not surprising but still really worrying. It’ll be an issue everywhere but in academia with its tight timeframes and extreme competition it’ll likely be especially detrimental.
Six weeks into widespread self-quarantine, editors of academic journals have started noticing a trend: Women — who (ofc) shoulder more family responsibility — seem to be submitting fewer papers than usual. There is some evidence that men are submitting *more.* (a thread)
Very well laid out long thread.
