Marie Corelli was one of Stratford-upon-Avon's most flamboyant & contentious personalities. She was the best-selling author of her day, eclipsing Charles Dickens, H.G. Wells & Wilkie Collins combined. Queen Victoria was a huge fan & insisted on being sent a copy of each new book.

Do not blaspheme against the very Power that allows your heart to beat! You see only the dark velvet of the casket, never the diamond within. #MarieCorelli

The world, in its blind and feverish vanity, seeks for light in the guttering candles of material wealth, never once lifting its eyes to the eternal, vibrating stars of the Spirit. We are not mere masks of clay, but radiant conductors of a Divine Electricity.

I feel you there. For instance, I never liked Stephen King's books and never read any because I detest horror and mystical books and movies. But I can't forget The Sorrows of Satan by Marie Corelli. The book sent a chill up my spin all through till I finished it back then in 1992

English novelist, Marie Corelli, 1909. She became a bestselling fiction-writer, her works were largely concerned with Christianity, reincarnation, astral projection and mysticism. Yet despite her many distinguished patrons, she was often ridiculed by critics.
