In case it wasn’t already said, the things I tweet are representative of me, myself and I. My thoughts. My emotions. I do not (nor do I want to!) speak for my school or my district. I speak for me and me alone. If there’s an issue with something I tweet, please DM me.
some news: I resigned from teaching and am a week into my career at Fidelity Investments. as much as I loved my students, the last 2 years + the rhetoric around teaching has been painful enough to cause me to need to step back. here’s to the future! (+ wfh days with the best)
You CAN be the fun teacher, or the nice teacher, or the teacher that all the kids like, and still have high expectations of them to follow the rules. It IS possible.
had a teacher first this week: a student who I’ve only taught virtually this year emailed me thanking me for everything I’ve done this year and if I would be willing to write her a letter of recommendation for college. I’ve never replied “Yes!” to an email so fast.
I was having a wonderful Sunday afternoon, EVAAS. Why’d you have to go trigger my fight or flight response like that 😭
NC has 185,708 public school (incl. public charter) workers. This includes teachers, admin, & all support staff. NC gets roughly 145K vaccine doses a week. Allowing for teachers that have already been vaccinated, NC could vaccinate ALL staff in one week if they chose to. If.
My 8/3 kids knew the way to my heart and that was to bring me an iced coffee in the morning. I mean, they were already at Starbucks anyway... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
my starbucks runs for you in the morning to supply your caffeine addiction...
My biggest worry with teaching virtually was that my students wouldn’t get to know the real me... the coffee addicted, sarcastic me who loves Disney, music, and my cat way too much. This gift from a student shows that they know everything they need to know about me 😍
Update: I did the first oral exam with a student today who’s having surgery tomorrow and it went SO WELL! I loved getting to hear the student talk through the problem, hear her catch her (minor) mistakes, and engage in deeper conversation about the math. Can’t wait for this week!
The discomfort (or blatant hate/bias) this will bring up for some is even more reason to share. The lives of Transgender people are inherently worthy of love, protection & support. I acknowledge & affirm our Transgender students, family members & community today & every day. 🏳️⚧️❤️
Today is Transgender Day of Remembrance. @RethinkSchools asks, what is required by each of us to protect the lives of transgender people? Check out @BLMAtSchool "The Year of Purpose" resources to learn more. blacklivesmatteratschool.com/year-of-purpos…
Yes it’s late. I have an asynchronous day tomorrow. Don’t judge. I want to hold space for my students should they need it. I’m giving them space to journal. But what else? Do I post a zoom link and let students use it if they need? Offer calendar appointments?
We did it. We won the general election. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
