If I were still a student, I would be very cautious about using AI tools (as they currently exist) to write essays for me. AI tends to be pleasing to the user (yes, psychology works everywhere), but it also does not like to fail. So it often inserts false info when it finds gaps.

If I were a teacher, I would not mind if my students used AI to help them learn. I'd ask them to write topical essay, then feed that essay into my AI program & ask it to produce N number of questions to test student's comprehension of the article. That would be the test.

MacFarland lived on the streets for a while, so he knows how hard it can be. He knows it's worse for children, so when one of them asks for his help, he has to act. Get Mathiya Adam's The Crying Camper shop.misquepress.com/products/the-c…

"You're under 50? What do you know of the world?" It can work both ways. Writing, like art, is individualized, and its rules are set by the participants. Glad you didn't listen to the naysayers!

It’s frustrating to hear that I should not continue to pursue writing because I’m 50 years old. Classes? “Why, you’re 50.” Signings? “Why, you’re 50.” Events?“You’re 50- waste of time.” Just writing - Well, you get it. As if my ship has sailed & I’m being foolish to keep trying.

I know I'm a fake, so I'll save you the trouble of trying to decide. I can't pass a Turing test or even a test to turn right or left.

Is it me, or does anyone else have trouble these days discerning who is real and who are fakes from online profiles?

I've had that experience many times...then my dog wakes me up.

"This is a really good idea!"

Apart from "life is short" or "you only live once" what else do you say before making bad decisions?

I think it's harder to write short stories. I don't think they're underrated, they're just a rarer commodity.

Why is there so much focus on novels over short stories? Short stories are underrated a thread 🧵

The Busty Ballbreaker is one of my favorite MacFarland mysteries. Inspired by the homeless men who watched a crane operator demolish a downtown Denver building, I knew I had to write a story about the object of their fascination. shop.misquepress.com/products/the-b… #cozymystery #mystery

If you're unsure about doing this, do what I do. Keep stalling!

My wife and daughter are trying to convince me to get a stall to sell my books at a creative market here in my town. I have such wobbles and lack of confidence just thinking about it . 😬🥺

This one comment makes you worth following! Thank you for bringing a smile to my morning.

Sounds like bots Damn, evil bots! I think it's because there is a "market" for accounts with large numbers of followers. There is a truism in this world...follow the money.

Funny. I follow back 10 writer accounts & I get 7 nearly identical DMs within minutes asking me about my “writing journey”💀. 🤣Why are there so many bots pretending to be writers on here lately?? It’s always been a thing but… it’s really extreme right now👀😂.

I suspect all characters are based on real persons...otherwise, they would not seem real. But when I write about Lee Hall, I build in enough differences that only Lee's mother would say, "I know someone like that. But my Lee is so much better than that fictional character!"

Writers, have you ever based a character on a real person in your fiction?

My daughter and I have very different political views. That doesn't mean I don't love her or love what she produces. She's twenty years younger than me. She has plenty of time to learn the error of her ways.

Can you love an artist’s work if you hate their politics?
