Would recommend trying out the game euclidthegame.com which “gamifys” the book ‘The Elements’ to get students (and teachers - it gets hard!) thinking geometrically.
This makes me really happy! I blogged about #bcme9 back in October and later encouraged teachers to apply for bursaries. I really hope it helped. As I said in my workshop, events like #bcme9 can inspire, enthuse and transform teachers.
Great to see so many younger teachers at #BCME9 - I wonder if this is partly to do with people like @mathsjem , @solvemymaths and @mrbartonmaths promoting it - and if so, thank you!
More (possibly too many) take aways from @mathsjem: 1) folders (long time desire to finally trial this year?) 2) quizzes! 3) methods (algebraic division using the grid method) 4) interleaving #BCME9 #fouryearstime
(Fluency is doing something correctly whilst someone is trying to distract you) @colinfoster77 #BCME9
Current takeaways from #BCME9 to introduce / implement / fulfil asap: 1) parallel.org.uk and top top sets from @SLSingh 2) deliberate practice and ssddproblems.com from @mrbartonmaths 3) volunteering for @UKMathsTrust
Already getting excited for ‘Ideas that transformed my teaching’ with @mathsjem - also want to thank you for your recommendation to attend #BCME9 and information on possible funding from @UKMathsTrust
@ragmaths @ejones2718 @WebbMaths @betsikohen @reetspetite @ruthball thanks for the kind words and for coming to yesterday's session. Thanks for the questions and feedback. Enjoy the rest of #BCME9
League tables introduced in 1992 - the start of the end of problem solving in classrooms? Get rid! #bcme9
On Monday I ran a 20 minute CPD session on GCSE revision for my colleagues (mainly focused on resources). Feel free to borrow my slides if they're helpful: drive.google.com/file/d/19WFUOX… Links are in the notes section on each slide. #mathschat #teammaths
I once had a memorable exchange with an arrogant maths prof, who loudly insisted: “the world fears mathematicians, let’s keep it that way”. Here’s Bragg absolutely nailing why that prof was wrong.
Academics. 'The duty of the lecturer'. Some thoughts on talking to non specialists, by Lawrence Bragg.
Have you seen @oliviawalch's illustrated "Some Myths about Math" yet? It's the most marvellous thing: oliviawalch.com/files/smam.pdf
