Pure Illumination The future is burning. In a time of extreme weather events brought about by climate change, with each additional catastrophe the message conveyed by these warning signals become ever more explicit, ever more urgent.

Our resilience as a species has been defined by the cumulative knowledge of our past. The fragility of our future is determined by the same. It should topple. Yet against all logic the structure holds by knowledge honoured and belief in the lessons of history.
While Pac Man obsessed with ghosts and power pellets, in real life the end of all things threatened to rain down from a network of killer satellites. With Perestroika came the New World Order. Now the old foes have re-emerged from their slumber. And so to the threat.
For the first time in history it is now cheaper to produce energy renewably rather than burning fossil fuels. Depicting the oil relicts of today that will be as alien in the the third industrial age as the first industrial age of steam is to the present.
A Newton’s Cradle embodies the notion of action & reaction, responsibility & accountability. The executive toy serves as a metaphor for decisions made without consideration for those affected by the consequences. If only responsibility and accountability were so connected.
The Clash I originally painted this picture about 18 months ago. And have just finished reworking it (which actually required me to repaint it almost entirely).
