🧵as i prep for Edinburgh fringe, an article about the sector 'running on empty' drops into my inbox... it's hard to disagree when i see the effects of arts resource scarcity every day. BUT i have two projects keeping me going, both making their Fringe debuts next week:

As it’s out tomorrow: I was rather swept up in the spectacle of NAPOLEON, which is a blockbuster with little interest in biography and a sturdy case for directors and actors playing to their strengths. Allez Ridlé! My review: radiotimes.com/movies/napoleo…

Go see Salty Irina! A terrific show put on by some supremely talented people. Show it some love if you’re in Edinburgh!

Waking up to ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ain't bad!! Thank you @EdFestMag "Integrating hard hitting themes, threading through a romance, and keeping the audience on the edge of their seat is a hard feat. Salty Irina thrives on this." edfestmag.com/salty-irina/

ARMAGEDDON TIME is in cinemas now, and in what was a pretty big deal for me I spoke to James Gray about it. Beyond showing me a really sweet pic of him and his grandad, he spoke openly about casting and why this film offers no catharsis. Sometimes meeting your heroes is great.

I loved Martin McDonagh’s THE BANSHEES OF INISHERIN. Colin Farrell’s eyebrows and sad eyes have rarely been on better form

🔥🔥🔥

delighted to say i will be associate producer @sohotheatre this autumn, working on this brilliant play. a dream job in a dream theatre 🚀

I like how Sky drafted in Michael Bay to shoot this

The queue to see the Queen's coffin is now more than four miles long and stretches from Westminster Hall past Tower Bridge - and continues to grow. Latest: trib.al/tasmgYi

Big yes from me for NOPE — I fell hard for Peele’s shades of Spielberg and Shyamalan. It’s a shame not all summer blockbusters tread the line between crowdpleasing and ambition this well. 👇

On my way to Cannes for the tail end of the festival and while killing time in the airport I ended up in an internet rabbit hole of 90s photoshoots. A lookbook of some of my favourites:

A very small, insignificant thing, but I’m slightly losing it as this is the first time I’ve had stars/a quote either in a trailer or on a poster. And for this of all films!

Watch our brand new trailer for your new favourite film. Starring Renate Reinsve, Joachim Trier's Oscar-nominated THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD arrives in UK and Irish cinemas March 25 and streams from May 13 in the UK, Ireland and India. A MUBI Release.

A film full of many beautiful shots, but my favourite has got to be when Tom Waits shows up

Saw THE WORST PERSON IN THE WORLD for a second time last night @BFI, having loved it seven months ago. Has all the wistfulness, charm and emotional sweep I remember. Saying it’s a special film is just about the least-hot take you can have, but I’m still firmly on that bandwagon.
